Description
Following her bestie Antonio's lead, Mizuki finally has her own updated design. I know Mizuki's many fans have been waiting on this so here it is at last!
I didn't stray too far from Mizuki's original design. Since she was (and remains) the G+ Uni's first and most prominent Japanese representative she has a traditional Samurai inspired design consisting of Kimono (top) Hakama (bottom), Haori (jacket) Sode (shoulder armor), Kusuzuri (waist guards), Suneate (greaves) and Tabi. She also sports a headband with the Japanese sun on it, which ties to Samurai times and is still worn today in Japan, much like Joe Higashi and Goro Daimon.
But it wouldn't be a proper update without some changes. Mizuki no longer uses Iaidō. Now, her Seijyūken consists of a Katana and Wakizashi set and she practices Nitō-Ryu, or Two-Sword Style. This change is to better reflect her Seijyū, Genbu, which is two creatures (Turtle and Snake) in one. Genbu is also represented in Mizuki's design: her Hakama sports a snake and her Sode are rounded to represent the tortoise half.
Like Antonio, Mizuki's backstory has also been updated to include her as a member of the Kagami Family as well as her strained relationship with her mother Helen. In her backstory we also learn that she is actually a member of the Main Branch of the Kagami Family and get a glimpse at her future partner: the Goddess Konohana Sakuya. She will get this power-up later in the story as well as a larger role to play following the tragic death of her good friend Erika Yoo-jeong Park (more on that later).
I enjoyed making this redesign, and I hope you enjoy just as much!

Short Bio: Mizuki is the daughter of popular Mayor Jushiro Kusanagi of Burlington and Kagami Family Matriarch Helen Kagami . She was born in Osaka, Japan, but would not come to know the country very well. Jushiro had discovered that Helen had another lover, his brother Ichiro Kagami and demanded that Helen end the affair or he would take Mizuki and leave Japan. Helen, in her haste and anger, chose Ichiro, a decision she regrets to this day, because Jushiro meant what he said. As soon as Mizuki was clear to leave the hospital, Jushiro took her with him to the U.S., never to see Helen again. Jushiro did what he did for Mizuki's sake and, when she was old enough, told Mizuki about her mother Helen. Mizuki was rightfully hurt and resents her mother for her abandonment to this day. For her part, though, Helen is genuinely sorry for her actions and desperately wants to make uo with her daughter. But Helen is also afraid. After all, Mizuki was an infant last the two saw one another and Mizuki has no idea what her mother even looks like--and doesn't particularly care.
But it is imperative that mother and daughter make peace. As Helen's daugter, Mizuki is a member of the Kagami Family by blood. This gives her access to a wide array of supernatural abilities. One of these is Divination, that is, the ability to partner with a God or Mythic Hero. The Shinto Goddess Konohana Sakuya has been watching Mizuki grow from girl to woman and is enamored with her deep kindness, strong empathy, open heart and exceptional martial prowess. But, in order for Sakuya to partner with Mizuki, Mizuki needs to awaken her Divination powers. Among the Kagami Family, partnering with Gods is exclusive to members of the Main Branch of the Family. This includes both Helen and Jushiro as well as Ichiro and thier children. This incredible feat is made possible by the Yata no Kagami, a special mirror used only by the Main Branch. Unfortunately, Jushiro never learned how to properly use his Yata no Kagami due to his busy life. That places the task of teaching Mizuki at Helen's feet and Helen knows it. Of course, nothing will change until the lines of communication between mother and daughter are opened and the healing can begin.
Despite Helen's absence, Mizuki had an otherwise normal childhood---for the most part. Jushiro loved his daughter dearly and worked hard to provide for her and be a good father. He succeeded in both endeavors, which is part of the reason Mizuki is such a fine woman today. Mizuki returned the favor by encouraging Jushiro to follow his dreams of a career in public service. It was this encouragement that evenutally led to Jushiro becoming Mayor of Burlington. But all was not perfect for Mizuki. Like many children, especially today, Mizuki loved cartoons, video games, and snacks. This combination paired with little exercise led to Mizuki being a little overweight. Her weight would follow her into adolescence and resulted in Mizuki being teased and having had a hard time making friends despite her friendly nature. Outside her father, the only company she had was her imaginary cat friends Toro and Kuro. Jushiro was heartbroken at the sight of his lovely daughter being lonely. He encouraged her to never hate people or give up on making friends. Though it was hard not to hate, especially given the oft-cruel world of adolsecence, Mizuki took her father's words to heart as she continues to. Thankfully for this gentle soul, things would improve when Mizuki turned fifteen and met Antonio Holman , who would become her best friend.
Meeting Antonio helped to bring Mizuki out of her shell but it wasn’t until she joined Toku Sentai—to be with Antonio more—that she grew as a woman. The various Missions forced her to talk with witnesses and communicate with her Squad-mates as well as expose her to dangerous situations that led to her weight loss and gave her the confidence she needed to be the woman she is today. While Mizuki appreciated Toku Sentai for bringing her out of her shell and introducing her to new friends like Gale Dragonheart and Victoria Roberts , she never really enjoyed the more violent aspects of the job like fighting with suspects despite the exercise it gave her. However violent the job got, though, Mizuki drew comfort from the fact that she could always turn to her dear Antonio. So it's not hard to see why she was distraught when Antonio was discharged following an incident during the Third Great War, a conflict that called on the World to unite and battle the mad scientists of Humanity's Upward March. Mizuki tried to talk to her superiors but they were firm. With her rock gone, Mizuki saw no reason to continue with Toku Sentai and resigned the next day.
Fortunately, Jushiro allowed her to move back in with him for as long as she needed. It was during this time that Mizuki took her own advice to her father. She put the saved money from Toku Sentai into education and earned her Associates Degree in Teaching. Diploma in hand, Mizuki chased a dream of hers since childhood: teaching Kindergarten. But this wasn’t Mizuki’s first attempt at College. Before joining Toku Sentai, Mizuki attended University of North Carolina Chapel Hill hoping to become a Nurse. But, after a while, she began to lose passion for and question her career path and decided to leave school for a while. Jushiro was a little disappointed at this but he wanted his daughter to be happy and supported her decision to leave school. Her older brother, Moriya , on the other hand, was none too happy that his little sister quit school. But, ultimately, he had no choice but to accept her decision. Her time there wouldn't be a complete waste, however. Mizuki used the Medical Skills she learned at UNC all throughout her Toku Sentai career and in the Third Great War. In both of these instances, Mizuki worked as a Medic---and a well-respected one at that. It was during her Kindergarten Teaching career that another dream of Mizuki' came true: the birth of her son, Koichi. Despite not having a mother herself, Mizuki is, amazingly, an excellent mother to her son. However, one could attribute her parenting skills to her father's parenting of her. Perhaps the biggest oddity to Mizuki's friends and family is how the boy came to be. No one but Mizuki knows who Koichi's father is and she is strangely tight-lipped.
But even peace is not forever.
While at the Burlington City Park, Mizuki, Koichi and Jushiro were assaulted by Androids called B.E.A.G.L.E.S., the exact same ones Mizuki fought during the Third Great War. Luckily Mizuki and Jushiro easily scrapped the robots but Mizuki was left puzzled. Jamal Al-Rashid , whom Mizuki had served under during the War, swiftly arrived with the answers to her questions. Jamal had been hunting the Androids and reluctantly informed Mizuki that H.U.M. and its ideals were seeing renewed interest and expressed concern of a possible return of the evil organization via its' parent cartel: the Universal Science Empire Pax Scientia. Jamal asked Mizuki if she would be interested in joining the Celestia Foundation, an organization similar to Toku Sentai but dedicated to combating supernatural threats and the Empire. Mizuki was hesitant but, ultimately, knew what she had to do: she had to fight again, not just for her own sake, but for the sake of her dear son and father. Jamal thanked Mizuki and reassured her that she would earn more than enough to support her and her son, a definite perk for Mizuki. Upon joining, Mizuki was reunited with her old friend Victoria and, later, her dear Antonio, old pal Gale and a new friend, Delia Chen . Now one of the Foundation's top Medics, Mizuki goes fourth to combat evil, both supernatural and technical with her friends by her side and her son and father in her heart.
Out of Antonio, Delia, Gale, Victoria, and herself, Mizuki is the most mature, kind, and understanding. She isn’t quick to fight like the other four, nor is she quick to anger like Antonio and Delia or arrogant like Victoria. Her experiences have also made her less naïve like Gale but she still always tries to find the best in every person and situation. As the most mature, she has a motherly persona about her that she had long before she was an actual mother. But, as a motherly type, she is prone to nagging and scolding and can be meddlesome with her friends at times. Once, she held strict pacifist views but the birth of her son and having witnessed the horrors of evil have matured these views. While she will never start a fight and will always give diplomacy a chance, nowadays Mizuki is more resolute and will not hesitate to fight and kill if the opponent shows no remorse or harms the innocent.
Like her friends, Mizuki is deeply religious. For Mizuki, her beliefs are a combination of Shinto and Buddhist, a combination common in her native Japan. This blends well with her family's Kusanagi-Ryu style. An original fighting style developed during the Warring States, Kusanagi-Ryu combines Aikido and Karate, soft and hard respectively, as well as Kenjutsu, or Swordplay. She also enjoys practicing Kyudo, Japanese Archery, a passion she’s had since childhood. Like the rest of her family, Mizuki is a Chōjin. Specifically, she has the power of Aquakinesis and Cryokinesis, among other hidden abilities.
Seijyuken: Mizuki’s Seijyuken is the Genbu Sōken; a Katana and Wakizashi made from the shell and fang of the Black Tortoise, Genbu, and his Snake companion. It corresponds with the Constellation Xuanwu.
