Arsenal was conceived by Peter I not only as a weapons storage, but also as a museum of Russian military glory:
the king ordered to bring here the guns captured in battle with the enemy and "for memory to put on eternal glory."
In 1819, along the facade of the building, 875 captured cannon, repulsed from the Napoleonic interventionists, were placed.
In 1960, the old Russian guns standing near the former Armory were also brought here.
