I kind of abused it.

I used to... it didn't last for long, to be honest. I did it for a couple of months and then I gave up.

Nope!

It's still... well, scattered. >.>

Thanks a lot!

I love DOF so, so much.

oh dear. If there's a little stick which has dislodged itself and moves around when you shake your violin, that should be your soundpost. put it back together!
DOF FTW.

Do you know how to? xD

moth-owl In reply to 3wyl [2011-02-24 20:23:03 +0000 UTC]

It depends on whether or not you know where the bridge was before... I've put strings on instruments but i've never done a full re-putting-back-together before. I am feeling agony for your violin right now.. why did you do it??

3wyl In reply to moth-owl [2011-02-25 14:42:36 +0000 UTC]

It's... for a completely stupid and moronic reason.

I was changing one string but it didn't work that well, so I thought... well, seeing as I took one string off, I might as well take the others off and then one thing led to another and it all started going to pot.

That's how I remember it, but it's probably not the most accurate version.

I have no clue what I was thinking when I did it. o.O

Nope. It's still stripped in its battered state.

Eesh...sorry, I'm a violinist...that's kind of upsetting. It's a bit of a Menuhin thing to do...

3wyl In reply to Catspupil [2010-09-23 21:18:54 +0000 UTC]

Lol, I totally understand.

I tried to sort out a string but then... it went wrong, and then for some reason, I decided it was better to de-string them all. o.O

Catspupil In reply to 3wyl [2010-09-23 21:40:35 +0000 UTC]

Well...I guess try and get it fixed at some time. Violins, all string instruments are designed to be the perfect soundboard, each one takes skill to make. They should be functional at least, played and loved at best.

Preeetty sure you can find one. Just get chatting to them...what part of England? I might be able to point you in the direction of one.

That's the thing, I can't chat.

London.

Quite expensive there.

Hmmm...I know Manchester's easier for that kind of thing. I'll be in London on Friday. Fun fabric shopping. Sometimes even showing an interest or an educated interest is enough...

Katoman [2010-03-25 21:51:44 +0000 UTC]

Lovely curves and motion in the shot. I don't think your bokeh is just from a shallow dof. If I can ask, how'd you achieve this effect?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

3wyl In reply to Katoman [2010-03-26 20:04:42 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much!

Well, the 50mm 1.8 lens is a good place to start.

Normally bringing the aperture down to 1.8 creates a great shallow depth of field.

Natural lighting helps as well.

But yeah... there really is no 'skill', here.

AGBBibag In reply to 3wyl [2010-01-29 07:04:28 +0000 UTC]

Did you kill it? You should put strings on it and play or sell it to someone who will play it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

3wyl In reply to AGBBibag [2010-01-29 18:58:34 +0000 UTC]

Well.. yes, I stripped it bit by bit. xD

I should... I tried to, but it didn't work too well.

I'm thinking of getting someone to mend it before selling it, but.. eh, that costs money and all of that. >.<

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AGBBibag In reply to 3wyl [2010-01-30 01:54:23 +0000 UTC]

You STRIPPED it? You slowly took away its parts.

Playing it? It's hard to play more than one instrument and have enough discipline to play regularly.

It might not even be worth mending...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

3wyl In reply to AGBBibag [2010-01-30 18:57:38 +0000 UTC]

With relish.

Nah, just joking. xD

I took off one string because I saw it was about to snap.

I couldn't put the new one back on again, so I had this 'genius' idea of stripping all of the strings to match that one.

That's true.

Hmm... If I mend it, I'll have to sell it, because I won't be playing it myself...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AGBBibag In reply to 3wyl [2010-01-31 00:43:34 +0000 UTC]

You violin murderer!

lol. And you weren't able to put any of the strings back on?
I currently have one non-matching string... but I won't be stripping the others...

Makes sense to do that.

I don't know if it's just me, but whenever I hear something... low, and it's played by a string instrument, it just sends shivers down my spine.

No, it's not just you, I also love it What is it about the bass-ness that is so nice?
I
love it when I'm holding my violin and a bass plays or a drum and the violin vibrates in my hands It rules.
