i have my own headcanon.
i think that songbird is powered by the body of a dead booker from an alternate dimension, given that it has been clearly shown booker and comstock existed at once in "infinite". if two can exist at once, why not three? it also explains how desperate songbird is to protecting elizabeth, as well as how easy it was for songbird to imprint on her.
and yes, its been shown in "burial at sea" that there is indeed a body in all that. just like the big daddys have people grafted into the suit.
