I've downloaded your two user guides....many thanks for providing them.....and look forward to trying to work it all out as so far Apophysis has been a complete mystery to me. Love this piece.....

Totally awesome work. Personally, I'd like a different gradient - me no likey teh pinks - but this is really great.

As regards the grad - Sometimes I find choosing this more difficult than creating the flame in the first place! I experimented with lots and rotated several before I settled for this one. There is a lot os 'noise' in the shadows which had to be screened out by the gradient rotation. Too many bright colours accentuated it and made it look awful.
The fact I created it between 2.30am and 5.30am when I couldn't sleep may also have some influence

I always hate looking for the right gradient just for the reason you mentioned. They always drive me crazy and that's why I tend to use the same gradients over and over because I can count on them. But then there is always "that one" where I go through all 700 pre-installed gradients and all of my own, then never render the flame because nothing worked for me...

Sinister sound cool. Hadn't looked at it like that but the dark almost gothic feeling I get looking at it could also be described that way. Thanks for your comments
