some good news and some ok news, the ok news i was in the top 100 but i was at a smaller venue this year so i felt fine about it. Last year at the Grand Rapids Art Museum i handed out 40,000 cards in three days, this year at the Spot 4000 in ten days yet i was sill up there. The Great news is the Grand Rapids Art Museum asked 12 artists out of 1500 to show their work for one year in the museum and i am one of those, cant ask for more, yeah the $200,000 would of been nice...next year Reinhard always next year.

Armin, my friend. So glad, and a bit sorry to hear the news. I went and checked out the winner 'elephants'. For me this year's winner is a clear continuation of what I had seen the past years. IT HAS TO BE BIG. Full stop. I have 2 dominating first impressions of these works, they are 2-dimensional (wide and high), lacking the third, artistic depth and especially for this year's winner it is more a 'feel good children's book illustration' on a gigantic scale. Cute, feel good animals in an unnatural, humanised, toy-like environment. Not my favourite style.
Glad to hear that you will get the chance to exhibit at a museum for one year. This might not give you the financial satisfaction of the 200,000 $ but it gives you the artistic recognition. I am not really sure which counts more in the end. One day the money will be spent, wisely or otherwise, the recognition will last forever.
If I have attacked people with this opinion, I am really sorry but this is what I feel.
Yes, there is always another year. I keep my fingers crossed and wish you the very best of luck for that.

no you are on target ArtPrize is the biggest monitory award in the world yet its very provincial and kids are a huge factor and so is size. if you put a small Monet or Sargent in the the museum it would go nowhere. Yet where can you show where 200,000 people see your work, that's what its about. Next year im showing some new small drawings and they will tank, but be a major step in sensitivity and im starting the largest portrait ive ever done this winter, about the size of the Simplicity of Science, well more square. ive been slowly going there anyway possibly ArtPrize 2014. this being shown at the GRAM is truly an honor, but the 200K i would of come home (Germany) and pay you and Regina a visit. The Elephants is a great drawing no doubt, it hit all the right areas, last years winner was just plain pandering i happy it seems forgotten

Armin, thanks for the reply. Did you get any feedback from Deborah as yet? As for popular vote, it shows that there is some truth in the saysing that trillions of flies can't be wrong. Excrements are very fine.....
Exposure is one thing, recogniton another - and you have got both. Sure 200k is nothing to snuff at and it would have been extremely fantastic to having met Val and you over here, but this has to remain a dream for a little bit longer. As you wrote, maybe next year.
Your hints about your further projects makes me anxious to see them asap. I know they will be fascinating and thought proviking as all of your work.
You say the 'Elephants' is a great drawing, I take your word for it. But what does it say? It seems, from what I can make out from images on the web, the message is: "animals are so great and peace loving and nature is better than humans", forgetting completely that humans are a part of nature. For me it is too sweetly romantic. But that is most likely an unfair judgement from a distance without having really seen the work.
I like yours better,

it has some surprising dark passages that are hidden well but if your open to it, you see it. but not from a monitor screen. its a different drawing style then what i like to do yet intriguing and lovingly rendered, it has passages the fly past most that see it, quite interesting actually. ArtPrize, great for the arts, bad for art.
