Its only recently i have started making skins. Ive only just got image editing programmes anywhere near good enough for making decent skins recently (GIMP), before now I didnt have anything that could do transparent areas!

I had image editing programmes before I was a skinner, I'm a photoshop person, I've never used GIMP, but looking at your work it seems pretty impressive...
