I know the pain there, thankfully Daz saves everything you ever downloaded and allows you to redownload it, it's saved my rear 3 times already. If I had to re-buy all that content, man, I wouldn't stand a chance.

yeah it's just finding the time to download everything again that's the problem right now, that and it needs to be on my mind. I just wish I could make my renders of higher quality. I have them on the software setting in DAZ studio, but it not comparable to other DS renders... I can't figure out why

Oh, the thing with that is lighting. Lighting makes a world of difference. I've been working in the program for about 6-7 years now and I've only recently gotten the hang of it. Check the parameter's tab on your lights, scroll down and select raytracked or deep shadow map depending the effect you want, then render, you'll see a big difference. If you want to see an example of the differences look at this [link] The one on the left is no shadows, what I call a base render, on the right is with raytraced shadows. It does make a very big difference. There's also a product called cloud nine by Dimension Theory on DAZ, they are what you see in most of my more recent works, the settings there just give an amazing effect though sometimes a little extra work is needed to get it just right.

I will warn though, however I suspect you already know this, that shadows are a bit rougher on the system, thus renders with them will take longer, the Cloud Nine product is very, VERY resource intensive, thus it's one of those you only render with when you are pretty sure you're doing up your final render, I've had images with that lighting and the enviromentals in Cloud Nine take two days to render before and that's on a pretty decent desktop.

thanks! I'll have to try those settings. Lighting is such a pain for me at times. And I'll have to take a look at that product, hopefully my new computer will be able to handle it. I think it should, I mean it has to be better than my laptop. Stupid thing went and died and took all my files with it :/

Yea I gave up on laptops a LONG time ago, they just don't have the power I need, and, after ya been at it for a while you need, to quote Tim Allen, "MORE POWER!" but yea, it should help, an' if ya need help in the future, offer's there, I don't mind passin' on tips and tricks I've learned to help someone avoid the headaches I've encountered fighting with 3D.
