Mine either. Actually I think I'm the only artist who doesn't know any artists. Besides the boring ones we learned about at school, I've never gone out of my way to study other artists and learn from them. I just do my own thing.

that's not a bad thing...

You can bring a lot into it as well. It is quite interesting. The contrast between having to maintain an illusion of marginality while at the same time playing deeply into the main-stream side of things for example. You can talk about the New York scene and how that affected a lot of the art.

but then again, as I always say, I don't do art

I can go one worse...She told me once that if I got out in the cold after having a shower, like two fuckin hours ago, my face could get paralyzed, from the cold.


I was like...whaaat?


and she always feeds me. When I go to hers, tasty food seems to materialse from thin air. And she is crafty too, I say that I am not hungry, and she'll be like; 'Oh thats ok, I'll just leave it here'


And I absent-mindedly eat it at some point

Oh my God, my grandma is the same! If I went outside with wet hair, she would pull me back inside with the force of a wrestler.

Same with the food, she'll say 'I'm just going to leave it here for when you're hungry' and I end up eating it - even though I don't want it - because it's there. She has no concept of being on a diet. Everything is flour, oil, butter, full-cream milk, meat and fat. Although her spinach burek is orgasmic

And I'm not supposed to go outside before 12pm, because apparently it's when all the dirty men are out.

nah...It's just my mum that's in London. Everyone else is in Turkey. But even when I was in Turkey we didn't live in the same city. Otherwise it woud have got a bit much I think. I need a bit of space. I just go see them for a coupla days in the summer.



One of the problems is, now I am at that age when my grandma started pointing out girls she thinks would be 'suitable' for me

My grandma is in Kosovo, but I stay with her whenever I'm up there. She came here for 3-4 months, I almost died. She just followed me around with food haha.

Ah yes, grandma aka matchmaker. She tried to convince me about this Turkish boy, so I went on a date. She said he was some kind of space engineer, who was multi-lingual, Muslim and handsome. Turns out he was just 'thinking about' studying engineering, ate pork and had an acne problem.
