I'm glad you are doing so well! I'm very sorry, I didn't know you had such a big day recently. All the best wishes for the New Year! Sounds like you were having a great celebration!

Wow, now you have many reasons for getting started again. I'm so looking forward to seeing what you make of your new pastels and charcoals!!

Life at my end is pretty good too. Last week I handed in my paper for one of the seminars, and I had a job interview for a student placement in the Marketing department of a company here in Passau. So for now I'm just relaxing and catching up with other university work, getting back to making music and painting. I have two new roomies, they are really sweet, we are having lots of fun together. As I'm in my final year of studies now, it's a relief to live with freshers who make you forget that life will soon be getting serious. Last weekend I visited my sister, we had planned that for ages and now got to stay together for three days. It felt like mini-holidays (which were much needed, until last week I was so stressed with university stuff).

Thank you dear, of course I can teach you what I know of digital art. That would be an honour for me too! Just let me know how you want to get started / what project interests you the most. What program would you use for painting with the tablet?

Hi Ruth,
Glad to know that everything is going well on your side. I cant thank you enough for agreeing to teach me Digital Painting. I've had my new tablet for a while now, and i started to feel guilty for not making even a single portrait with it till now. All thanks to you, now i would be able to use and enjoy it.

Anyhow, first things first, here are a few suggestions on how i think we should proceed, please tell me what you think.

1) Get a gmail account, and install gtalk. We need to get our communications set. So my email address is: vgart999@gmail.com, just add me on gtalk.

2) Goto www.teamviewer.com, and download their small software (its free). This would enable you to look at my desktop, on how i am painting, and you can guide me through it.

3) And the most important thing, i need to know how much time you can spare, and at what time. How many hours at a stretch can we sit down together? Tell me the passau time, i will check New delhi time accordingly.

4) We need a reference image, so for that, i have downloaded a few pics from google images, i will send it to you once i have your mail, meanwhile, you can also search (Liv Tyler, Emma Watson, Ashley Benson, Kate Beckinsale, Taylor Swift). Save any of their images with which you would like to teach with.

5) I have a wacom bamboo fun tablet, and photoshop CS3, i hope this should be enough. If not, please let me know what all i need.

Please give me your suggestions on the above.

Hey Vishesh,

very cool ideas! Do you have any knowledge already? Because if not - or really only a little bit, I'd suggest that I do a mini tutorial first, so we can get started with something as complicated as a portrait painting afterwards. What do you think? Would that be helpful to you?

There are also two things I'm afraid will make it a bit complicated to hold the lessons: First, my internet connection is so shaky that video and sometimes even audio does not work. So we'd have to chat (write) while we are holding the lesson. Second, I got a job today. I'm over the moon, it will let me 'test' my skills in Marketing, see if it is something I'd like to do after my studies. And of course I will learn a lot of new things. I'll start tomorrow. To look at things in a realistic way, I guess I will need about two weeks to settle in.

So my suggestion: We start with the tutorial, I give you some tips I think are essential to get started and you make your first steps to see how it feels And in about two weeks we hold a lesson where you can ask me everything that has come up while you were trying things out and I will give you more tips while I watch you painting.

What do you think of it? Of course I'm open to othe ideas!

Hi Ruth,
First of all my heartiest Congratulations for your new job. I hope that you do exceptionally well, and that you find it interesting. Marketing is a huge field, and am sure you'll learn tons of things. My best wishes on you first new day, i hope it goes well.

As for our painting project, I am absolutely fine if we start the lessons after 2 weeks, and meanwhile you could give me mini tutorials. Here are a few pointers...

1) I have no knowledge at all about tablet whereas i know how to get along with photoshop well, i need to know what all are the tablet setting required, how do i go about painting a portrait.

2) I'd love to go with a tutorial, can you please tell me what all will it cover?

3) Just give me your e-mail address, i will keep you updated with my progress.

4) I'd prefer to take a portrait in the starting for my tutorial, since i think that would cover everything. And i am a quick learner. You wont have to struggle too much to teach me

Hey Vishesh! Soooo sorry, I was ill, in bed for nine full days. So I'm somehow totally out of everything at the moment and need to catch up with university. Would it be ok for you if we try to really get started around the 21st? It is the beginning of a two weeks winter holiday for me, so plenty of time (and finally the right relaxing mood) to really focus on our plans.
How are things going for you? Is work better now? How's art?
