Thanks for the faves and the watch! Sorry I didn't react sooner - very busy at the moment.
I love your photos, too. You've mastered a technique I've tried a couple of times - wandering around with a flash with the camera open, for underground photography. At least, I presume that's what you've done. Or do you have a system for opening and closing the camera remotely, or an assistant?
I'd like to take pictures of some of my favourite caves like that, but I've not been caving seriously for about twenty years

> Thanks for the faves and the watch!
I think one day I will come to Greenland because I always feel the same, I find these lands beautiful.
> You've mastered a technique I've tried a couple of times
If you want, I can explain you how to do. You will see that's not difficult. The only difficult thing is to calculate how much flashes you do. As you guest, you have to test and to do 2 or 3 photos for a same subject. after, you choose the best one...
> Do you have a system for opening and closing the camera remotely, or an assistant?
Nothing is done remotely, that's too modern for me. We are a group, we are four persons going in underground mines. So, we are each assistant of others ! It depends on times... But I know you can do everything remotely.
Thanks for your comments. each time I'm happy to see your work.

I understand well enough how to do it, I think. But as you say, you need to do two or three for each subject.
I was trying it with a film SLR, an old one - I didn't want to take my best camera underground. Natural caves have very irregular, broken floors, and a lot of water dripping or pouring around - not a good environment for cameras really, unless you've got a ruggedized and waterproof one.
I never went caving alone, but I was generally the leader of the group, and the people I usually went with weren't really interested in spending a lot of time messing about with cameras Also, in most of my favourite caves, there's so much water noise that you can't communicate with anyone more than a few metres away from you.

I understand !
Just for information, I destroy about one camera each 6 months... That's why I work with old material, like praktika or Zenit, that's not very expensive. I buy it abroad or in secondhand trades...
> I never went caving alone
It's better not to go alone because it could be dangerous if you have a problem...
> the people I usually went with weren't really interested in spending a lot of time messing about with cameras
That's a very big problem, I know... To do photos in these places is long. Not a lot of people like to wait ten minutes during a photo !
Good luck if you try again one day, I would be curious to see your results.

I think my son (nearly 19 now) might well like to work with me on this, but even two isn't really enough to go caving safely. I generally think three is an absolute minimum, preferably more, except in very easy caves.

You give me the urge to get my climbing stuff and go down some of the old copper and tin mines around my house.....if i dont come back.....it's your fault

Copper mines ? Hum, I can come with you
It won't be great if you disappear in underground mines. If you come one day in Belgium, say me it. We can go underground, there's some good places (also in France, but it could be far for you).
I know there's a mailing list about mining history in England, but I don't know what they are talking about...
Arf, please come back !

It's so difficult to have precise photo from cats... Your photo is terrible for this accurate view. With my cat, impossible to do anything, it's always moving running mewing jumping, etc... A cat definition in fact ! So your photo is impressive, a very good work.
If you want, you can have a look to my cat here : [link] and here [link] but that's not exactly the same kind of cat ! (Sandy my wife made these photos)
