Yoshi nearly died but he survived, meaning that Alvin wanted him there. I think its either Sonic or Shadow. I got some weird gut feeling.

No, Yoshi will probably leave or go to Yoshi's Island (thats what he does at many endings of mario games ). Also we don't even know if they defeat Mecha and stay, we don't even know if Alvin will continue. I still think Shadow or Sonic will die. I'm have a hype its Shadow.
