When Francis had found the packet of sparklers in a random box of things that he kept under his bed, he was surprised, and also confused. He wasn't quite sure why he had felt the need to go through the box that night, and he also wasn't sure where the sparklers had come from. It had been years since he had celebrated any sort of holiday. After all, it was no fun celebrating on your own. He couldn't remember how long ago he had bought these, or why he had put them in this box.
It was far too early for a New Year's celebration. It was barely even Christmas time. Francis wondered if sparklers stopped working a certain time after you bought them. If these were years old, who knew if they would still go off? But for some reason, he wanted to try. Though... It wouldn't be any fun to do it on his own. Who could he ask to do it with him?
For some reason or another, the first person to cross his mind was Roderich (though it might have been because the Frenchman had a slight crush on the Austrian). He was unsure if Roderich would even agree to such a thing, but Francis figured, there was no harm in asking, right?
He put the packet back in the box and grabbed his cellphone off of his bedside table. He quickly dialed the Austrian's number and held the phone to his ear. He waited patiently for an answer.

There was nothing to do on a day like this.
Too cold to venture out for some market shopping, but there was nothing to do inside either. Roderich found himself in a predicament which lead him to aimlessly reclining on his sofa, thumbing through a book he had read so many times before. His eyes weren't even focused on the pages which lead him to just glance at the paper with no actual meaning.
It was in empty times like this when he had let his mind wander into places it hadn't been for many years. His old alliances, his many marriages ( most of which had consisted of empty vows and bitter ends ), wars he had partaken in. The book fell open on his chest and he let his head fall back on the pillow he had been using to keep his neck in a comfortable position. Eyes closing, he let out a quiet breath. Something needed to distract him - and needed to do it fast.
The opening bars of Beethoven's 5th Symphony almost gave him a heart attack. The Austrian jostled, jolting upright in fright. Why on Earth did he decide that that particular song was to be his ringtone? Catching his breath, he pawed around the side table till his fingers met his silver block of a phone, flipping the lid up and holding it to his ear.
"Guten Abend,Β Sie sind mit Roderich Edelstein spricht.." His voice came through the speaker on the Frenchman's end, accent heavy as his voice first went to German. "Good evening, you are speaking to Roderich Edelstein." Soon enough, the English translation came; all he could do now was wait for a response.

"A-ah, Roderich, how good to speak with you again," Francis said, almost a little too quickly, he thought. "It's ah... It's me, Francis." He cleared his throat a little. "Hey, listen, I've got something to ask you. Are you busy tonight?" he asked.Β

Gilbert Beilschmidt was currently in the cellar, rummaging through a few things that they kept stored there- mainly, because he could have sworn that he kept them there and...

He grinned and pulled skates out of one of the boxes that were now all around him. It were two pairs of them- One in his size and the others- at least he hoped so - would fit RΓΆderich, or they would need new ones. Gilbert hoped RΓΆderich would like this surprise a lot- Since he wasn't even sure whether the Austrian even could ice skate. But...Austria had a lot of mountains to ski- so ice skating shouldn't be a big problems either, right?
So he grinned and quickly got up, turning around and rushing upstairs with the two pairs of skates in his hands.Β
"Roddy~?" He called out to him as soon as he was in the living room, since he wasn't even there- looking around he wondered where the other might have disappeared to. Did he really take that long to find the skates? The Prussian pouted a little and shuffled from the livingroom to the kitchen. "Roddy!?"
