Hey Dan, I was just wondering how you like the Leica D-Lux 5 ? im thinking of getting one. I need it for photographing art far away and close up . also for some street photo snaps how do you find the lens is it fast ?

The camera is excellent. I'm getting much much better quality images than my Canon 50D, even with expensive lenses. I know it may seem deceiving in such a small package, but it's great for all types of photography. I actually prefer using it over my DSLR now. Macro mode works excellent and has very fast focus. The lens is of true Leica quality, and renders beautiful colors. So well in fact, I rarely need to do much post-editing. Leica is known for street photography, and when you slap it in dynamic black and white mode it really gives it that extra dimension. It has full manual controls and great 720p video as well. I would say it's definitely worth the $800. The resale value on the camera should be excellent too, if you were ever to upgrade. I worked at a camera store that was an authorized Leica dealer, plus I had the chance to use the M9, X1, and even older M6, IIIc used cameras. Once you go Leica, you cant go back. Hope this helps!

There's a good saying: "the best camera, is the one you have with you" I think thats very true, as ive had a big fancy camera before and when the novelty wore off it ended up staying at home a bit more. I try to have a camera with me at all times but its hard lugging around an SLR especially when your going about everyday life or cycling. Thanks for taking the time to reply you were more helpful then any reviews online
