but they're catching everyone's attention at the cost of their own integrity, as the writer of that article said, they have a problem with eating meat, but no problem turning women into meat. i do not take offense to this as a non-vegetarian, i take offense to it as a non-chauvinist

interesting. (for the purpose of debate) i kind of feel like that ad (as well as the various other advertisements in the media today) doesn't neccesarily portray ALL women as meat, just the ones willing to be part of the commercial... and thats their choice. it seems as though no matter what the occasion, people/celebrities/media wants to A. take off their clothes/ make other people take off their clothes or B. watch someone take off their clothes... and if it is going to be like that, we might as well save some innocent animals while we are at it... or at least prompt someone to go to peta.org to read about the attrocities eating meat does to the animals, your body, the environment, etc...

although it does not portray all women as meat, it portrays skinny, near-naked women. by stating that "statistics show that vegetarians have better sex," (which, in fact is a false statistic in reference to a study that showed that a neat diet raised chances of impotence, which means that those who aren't having sex to conceive, or aren't having sex with men, will probably have the same quality sex, vegetarian or not) PETA draws a direct correlation between sex and skinny women in lingerie. they are only targeting those who are attracted to such a woman, alienating thousand of viewers. i can't imagine that this was the most effective method of advertising-- especially when the method of recruitment is pure sexuality, which is definitely not the reason the majority of vegetarians become who they are. most people become vegetarians because they have a moral issue with eating meat, not because they feel its ingestion will harm their libido.

yeah, well, i never really had to try... because i don't know anything else- meat... you know? being that i have been vegetarian for a huge time... actually though, i have been hard-core vegan since thanksgiving. i like it so much better and i honestly don't find it hard at all. (it was harder to tell my family/ have them understand... my aunt still has no clue what vegan even is...its actually quite funny that after i told her i don't eat eggs she was like, "but you still eat things made with eggs, right?" *sigh*

lucky you had an easy start. i remember when i was a child i became a vegetarian for about a year-and-a-half to two years- it end very abruptly when my family was having fillet mignon. i want to start again, but when i travel to other countries and am offered meat, i will not be able to afford the offense that they may experience, especially as a journalist- confidence is everything. maybe when i grow older i will have the luxury of being vegetarian.

hmmm...its funny that you say it is a luxury... i don't think it is that difficult to gain the ability of vegetarianism...and other nations have compassionate people as well, i think they would understand ones refusal to eat anothers flesh... but i suppose i can comprehend your point... a journalist? thats very cool. do you have a "dream paper"/"dream magazine"/whatever/ that you aspire to write for?
