# About me

An off-and-on writer studying political science and philosophy at university. Hopes to serve the Iraqi people and to illuminate the political significance of even the seemingly crudest populations' everyday lives and habits. Biggest influences are comics with an overtone of existential horror (say, Swamp Thing, Sandman, Lucifer); classic Russian literature; genre fiction; Iraqi poetry; depressing manga; any and all religious texts; philosophy; and early twentieth century American authors.

Editor for Episteme, an Undergraduate Philosophy Journal; web editor for a handful of nonprofit/activist websites; and editing slave to all her friends in academia.

Interesting. Might I ask what prompted the name change and what it might mean?

Xerxes. It's an ahhh pseudonym I picked up for a competition, owing to the fact that there's a certain character I've always admired and which codifies all that I should remember about my personal faults and all that I should accept... so yes.

Huum, from a random Google search I can but say one thing: all that glitters is not gold. More often than not its CGI.

You're most welcome. I wanted to critique, but Im a bit pressed at the moment. Nevertheless, I'll be reading more. Your prose flows very well, even if I want a bit more immersive and complex description while I'm reading. Also, you write very natural dialogue-- keep that up.

Thank you. I had an epiphany when I read your comments. I am a minimalist in description because when I am working with words, I focus on the impact of words. Since I am also an artist, I create wordless images. I think that is the reason why I don't do in depth descriptions. When I have an image, I paint, draw or sculpt it, I don't write it. Β In the future I could become more descriptive. It just has happened yet.Β

Jake-Sjet [2013-08-09 23:23:47 +0000 UTC]

So we like part one, but not part two...was it because of the use of a snow shovel for the world building in the first half?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

tatterdema1ion In reply to Jake-Sjet [2013-08-10 12:24:58 +0000 UTC]

The worldbuilding mixed with action isn't bad. But I think Chapter 2 just doesn't feel worthwhile in itself-- rather, it's the train ride to the genie bottles. This was helped some by the development of the protagonist though.Β

Jake-Sjet In reply to tatterdema1ion [2013-08-11 16:14:14 +0000 UTC]

You know I just read it back and your right: its a train, and not even a fast train. Its a subway train between two good part sof town that has to stop and pick up hobo's with bad breath. I've made the literary L Train!!

But hey protagonist development, its all good.
