Thank you . I actually did not think much about the subject matter in this piece, I was more like trying to capture a scene. I think I like the idea of an image that does not have a clear subject matter. Just leave it to be interpreted by the viewer.

You are quite amazing with colours. I found most of your artworks beautiful and quite profound.

I find your view about the 'rules' for a good composition quite intriguing. The idea of not defining subject matter as an artist is quite interesting. Doesn't that make the production of a piece much more difficult then? And I think that if you want to leave the interpretation to the viewer, then you shouldn't give the piece a title. The title could consist of, as an example, symbols, depicting the same feeling as the art piece... Thanks for the by the way!

Can I ask what you meant by 'the subject matter'? because I might have got its meaning wrong. Is it more about the objects in the piece and what they represent, or is it more about the theme of the piece? I should have explained a bit more about about my works but I am not sure if I understand what subject matter mean .

Ah, that's ok. By 'subject matter' I mean what the painting/drawing is about. What the objects in the piece portray. So, in your question: the first option. Does the explaining get easier now?

. I like to leave the subject matter (what the objects in my drawing represent or symbolise) to be interpreted by the viewer, but I still like to have an overall theme in my work, like a theme of journey to a place and time (I am depicting the journey back to the beginning) in this case.

I normally imagine a rough picture of the drawing in my mind and try putting it down on paper. Then I create the finished piece. So when it comes to drawing the detail of the objects in the piece, it kind of what ever comes to my mind, and if I like it, I draw it.

You should check artist Shaun Tan out. I get a lot of inspiration and influence from his works and his essay on picture books. I believe having a title and artist comment make the work easier to understand, but because no clear subject matter or theme is presented, this opens the viewer to wider interpretation and understanding than of mine alone.

Still, you could say imaginary scenery is my subject matter as it is what I am drawn to. So, I don't really know if not defining the subject matter make the work more difficult to create.

Dank je!!! Ik heb er van genoten!! Ben op zondag nog naar Haren geweest maar heb je nergens gevonden (heb ook niet hard gezocht hoor reed gewoon even door Haren om in het sterrenbos van Glimmen te wandelen )

hahahah, ik was zondag ook gewoon thuis om mijn verjaardag te vieren, dus ik was ook niet in het dorp ofzo! Maar was wel grappig geweest als we elkaar tegen waren gekomen!
En het sterrenbos is cool, maar dat ligt toch in Groningen? Volgens mij ben ik nu heel dom bezig!

Het blijkt dat er twee sterrenbossen zijn: 1 in Groningen en 1 in Glimmen. Dat wist ik ook niet hoor. Wij gingen gewoon wandelen en plots zagen we een bordje met 'Sterrenbos' erop!

Ik ben Groninger! XD Ik woon alleen in Haren, weet niet of je dat kent? Ligt vlakbij Groningen. Ik doe vwo en ik zit nu dus in de 4e klas, het is alleen nog niet helemaal zeker of ik dit jaar wel overga naar de 5e. Wat voor studie volg je dan? Lijkt me echt veel leuker om iets te leren wat je (waarschijnlijk) echt leuk vind , dan alle lessen die je op de middelbare school nog allemaal moet volgen!
En dankje , ik ben met alles druk aan het oefenen, want ik wil echt beter leren tekenen, ik vind het gewoon echt super leuk om te doen!
