Hey, thanks for the comment again.

The blade I think is supposed to be a reference to a 'sequal' to Ikaruga called Radiant Silvergun. In that game, the ship's most powerful powerup is called the Radiant Sword and its basically like two swords (made up of energy and electricity and stuff like that) smack together in front of your ship to annihilate anything there.

But, I think it serves no 'ramming' purpose.

As for the cockpit, I don't know. This is what the ship looks like in the game. There is no glass canopy on the ship. I'm guessing sci-fi works its magic, and there is some kind of liquid-crystal membrane embedded into sensors on the body of the ship to allow you to see outside?
