Ha, I don't remember exactly how at this point...probably just noticing random comments on some mutually Haru-obsessed friend's DA, there are only so many of us and sooner or later we all wind up commenting on the same pics!

Oh, great news! I found that on a random search for something different but the graceful flowing lines really jumped out at me. The only calligraphy I do currently is all Western-style, but I would love to learn how to handle a brush like that someday. I will be looking forward to seeing more from you!

Thank you! ^_^ Once you learn how to just plain write Japanese, its calligraphy sort of grows out of that. Of course, this makes it sound like learning to write Japanese is easy...

I'm still kicking myself for not taking Japanese classes in high school back when I had the chance...it seemed like so much more work at the time and I was lazy, now I think how cool it would have been to pick up a completely different lettering style! Teaching myself Tolkien's tengwar was fun enough, although the letter forms are so closely related to a basic uncial hand that the actual technique was easy once I had the characters down: working in a completely different style and language, now that would really stretch the old gray cells...

And yep, guilty as charged! ATLA is the show that finally brought me back out of the fangirl closet. Zuko's the firebender prince with the scar and the bad attitude -- a big fan favorite of course! I do like the boy quite well enough but for some reason tend to fixate the most on the more minor characters -- a mixture of contrariness and enjoying the greater imaginative freedom of fanworks where there's less canon to deal with. Well, that, and a general fondness for pretty hair.
