Yeah, I just read your journal. Sorry to hear it. Sounds like you've got it all under control now though. You seem like a pretty capable sort of person so I'm sure you'll have it licked. Good luck with the new place! (oh yeah, and the writing of course)

I just watched the two videos from your sig, they were fantastic!

Just around the corner was kind of resonant because I was mugged a couple of years ago in an underpass exactly like that, they're somehow divorced from the rules of the city in a way that even alleys aren't, better to run through traffic.

Washing, on the other hand, resonated with me purely because I am exactly the same with washing, to the point where I ration my better clothes for days I'm going out, and if I'm cancelled upon my only real reaction is to be annoyed that I've wasted a shirt

simeberg In reply to joe-wright [2010-07-18 02:23:39 +0000 UTC]

Cheers Joe! Glad you enjoyed them.

Sorry to hear about your mugging but, yeah, I'm totally with you on underpasses and washing both.

Just Around the Corner had its genesis in Flash Fiction Month last year - and I only wrote nine entries - which is why I totally had to try and do it properly this year. Link to original story here if you're interested: [link] although the underpass setting didn't come until I started thinking about how to shoot it.

joe-wright In reply to simeberg [2010-07-18 15:15:16 +0000 UTC]

don't worry about it, seems to happen to lots of people at some point.

That was some fantastic writing, I like how the dead bodies of the previous victims aren't explicitly mentioned so much as hinted at.

The underpass setting definitely did a lot for the story cinematically though, those horrible tiles they decorate them in are a headache as it is.

Do you film a lot then?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

simeberg In reply to joe-wright [2010-07-21 00:42:05 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah, the tiles totally make those underpasses. I wonder who designs them? I wrote a story that went into that a bit (not posted here atm) - there's a big roundabout near me that has three underpi (lol) running into the inside of it and it has some fucked up tiling going on in there. All blue and sticking out at weird angles.

Anyway, yeah, it was when I figured out that it should be set in an underpass that the whole thing got going - that and the PCSO character.

Thanks muchly for the praise - I am quite proud of that one. The film made it into the final of Zone Horror's (now the Horror Channel) Cut competition and plays on there (they rinse and repeat stuff endlessly). And yeah, I think implied nastiness is always more powerful if you can make the possibilities come to life in the audience's mind.

I do film a lot. It's what I do for a living. If you can call it a living. I'm just finishing an hour-long documentary for a a small TV channel (it's a bit hush-hush right now but I'm sure I'll announce on here when it's all sewn up). Up until I got that it has been mainly corporates that put food on the table, but hopefully I can start moving out of that into TV a bit more and one day make some features.

joe-wright In reply to simeberg [2010-07-21 00:53:49 +0000 UTC]

I was going to ask if you filmed for a living but that seemed a little presumptuous lol. I hope you manage to get established in TV anyhoo, you certainly have the directing chops. The documentary thing has piqued my interest, I'll be keeping an eye out.

When you say corporations, do you mean short films for internal events and press things?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

simeberg In reply to joe-wright [2010-07-21 01:13:06 +0000 UTC]

Cheers Joe. The part about directing chops gave my ego a little glow.

By corporates I meant corporate videos - i.e. anything from press to promotional stuff, event coverage, fundraising videos, training videos, educational videos - all that stuff. If you know anyone that needs that kind of thing, do let them know I could do with some work right now, hehe.

Thanks K.

I am still around, but not that often (clearly). Haven't been writing much prose lately - all hands to the screenplay - but that's no reason to forget about dear old dA.

How have you been?

I need to do a big announcement but I'm feeling particularly lazy right now.

Well apparently SIMEBERG NEEDS ME, so I suppose you've got the announcement under control.

I thought it was great. Did you edit, too? It was nice and clean (and fucking funny). Oh I feel so close to you know that I've been up your nose.

simeberg In reply to wordworks [2008-02-24 23:12:40 +0000 UTC]

He does! And yeah, after writing that reply I thought I should just get on with posting a journal entry before it all gets too old.

Yes, I edited it too. It's wicked that you liked it. I am pretty pleased with it

It's always been an ambition of mine to share my nostrils with the world. Perhaps we should start a dA trend of posting nasal hair close-ups. But then again, maybe not...
