I work at Toys-R-Us (Westfield->Miranda). And at Toys-R-Us, I do Night Fill!
Night Fill
------------------------------
Night Fill is a job for a group of people that put stock back on the shelves after the store has shut, ready for the next day.
------------------------------
1) First we Split the Stock[1] onto the Floor[2].
2) Then we get our allocated aisles.
3) Next we put the stock in our aisles in 3 Piles[3].
4) After that we Cut in New Stock[4].
5) Next we Fill the Stock[5].
6) Then we do Over-Stocks[6].
7) After we have done all this we Face[7] our aisles.
------------------------------
This may not seem much but with the amount of stock they give us it takes quite a while...
------------------------------
Glossary
[1] Split the Stock β βSplitting Stockβ is where you take boxes (Boxes contain stock) off this thing called a Pallet (a pallet is this wooden thing which has lots of boxes on it...(Pallets are located in the store room) and then stack the boxes onto this trolley-like-thing called a "U-Boat" and wheel the U-Boat to the floor. Once on the floor you open the box and see what is in side. Then you take the box to the aisle where it belongs. We keep doing this until we have cleared most of the pallets.
[2] Floor - The βFloorβ is the part of the store where the products are...lol
[3] 3 Piles - Once you get into one of your Aisles you open the boxes with Box-Cutters (lol) and put them into 3 Piles, the piles are...
Pile 1 - New Stock
Pile 2 - Old Stock (Stock that needs to be filled)
Pile 3 - Over-Stocks (Stock that needs to be Over-Stocked)
This is supposed to make the job a bit faster (I think itβs stupid, hardly anyone ever does it...lol)
[4] Cut in New Stock - To "Cut in New Stock" is to put something thatβs NOT already on Showβ¦ON show! lol... (On Show means that itβs not in any of the aisles, in other works itβs a new product)...Since there are no gaps in an aisle, you have to move and swap products around so the NEW product fits.
[5] Fill Stock - To βFill Stockβ is when you have a product ALREADY on show but the product is not full to the front of the shelf, so we have to get the SAME product from a box we have in our aisle or from the over-stocks and put it like in front of the original product until its full to the front of the shelf.
[6] Over-Stocks β βOver-Stocksβ is stock that wonβt fit on the shelf. So essentially we have to put it somewhere. We canβt put it in the store room, because there isn't enough room. So there are extra shelves which are a bit higher than the other shelvesβ¦ (Normally over-stocks are unreachable without a ladderβ¦but they sometimes arenβt THAT high) β¦which we put stock that canβt be filled onto.
[7] Face β The βFaceβ is known as the front of the shelf. To face something is to pull it to the front of the shelf. If this is done to an entire aisle, it makes it look really good and neat. Also if there is, for example, only one of a certain product left and it is pushed to the back of the shelf, and a customer walks past, they might not see it. So if you pull it forward, to the front of the shelf, customers can see the product.
------------------------------
So that pretty much what I doβ¦Personally, I enjoy it, because mention I get 20% discounts on ANYTHING in the entire store! And itβs really fun!
N.F.F.L!!!!!
