Born and raised in Texas, Robbie studied Illustration at MICA and subsequently began freelancing. She is currently in Florence, Italy pursuing further education in painting.Her work is mostly figurative, with a touch of the whimsical and creepy, and has been featured in Illustrators 53, The Fairfield's 3rd Annual International Manga Exhibition, and in Eisner Award winning: Popgun 3

I'm kind of considering MICA over UCLA now. You're one of the most inspirational MICA alumni I know. Could you give me a bit of insight on freshmen year please? : ) and how did you get to work for the japanese rock band? that's sooo cool!

Freshman year at MICA is a little bit of evvvvverythiiiiiing. You'll paint, sculpt, draw, write, art on the computer, learn about critical thinking and color theory. I had a great time freshman year. It's SO busy but its a lot of fun and more relaxed than when you go into your major and become super focused on your work. All the freshman live on campus and in the same building and if you want to get involved in the organized communities MICA sets up, they're pretty fun. I went into MICA with no declared major and I think I really benefitted from it, keeping an open mind your freshman year is really key to the rest of your college career imo. I remember about halfway through my first semester I went outside and I felt like I could see more colors than I could before. I thought I was going crazy, but I asked my roommates and they ALL experienced the same thing! Art school is kinda awesome like that.
If you're going to focus on Art go to MICA. It's a great school, especially if you're into painting or illustration. It's a great campus that's really integrated into downtown Baltimore. If you want to go into fashion I would look into other schools, though.
LOL oh the JP band! Well that was a combination of... well it was mostly luck and right place/right time. One of my friends somehow got herself backstage and got their staff to show them my work (against my will I might add) and gave them my email. They emailed me within the week! It was one of the coolest experiences I've had working as an illustrator (and a fan, not gonna lie). They were really sweet, very encouraging people.
