Well, I finished reading Cryptic Investigation. While I feel it does drag on at points, I like the fact that it has a nice variety of elements - it has human villains that pose a real threat to the characters, it displays their thoughts and emotions and shows things from their perspective as well as the heroes, it puts the heroes in "chalkless" situations where they have to survive using their own wits, it makes them deal with the fantasy environs of ChalkZone itself (I loved when they were camping in the "wilderness"!), it introduces creative situations and ideas (like that constantly reconstructing building), and it brought Snap into the real world and also had the ChalkZone interact with the real world in interesting ways (like smoke from ChalkZone spilling out into the real world). I also liked seeing Bob being increasingly angry at Rudy and Penny, blaming them for doing things like setting his building on fire on purpose and such. Just totally misunderstanding what they were doing.
Now for my criticisms, but please don't take this the wrong way - I enjoyed the story and felt the good easily outweighed the elements I feel could have been improved.
My main criticism really is that I feel it just drags at points, with scenes that go on longer than I feel they should. And also, seeing the heroes go on a big adventure and come back mostly empty-handed was disappointing. I also found it weird that they went on that adventure in an attempt to stop a human messing with the world - I figured it would make sense for them to try to learn more about the real world and deal with threats there, or use ChalkZone to warp between locations (like with the TV station late in the story). So while I liked their adventure, I felt the justification for it was a bit lacking.Β
My favorite parts were anything involving the human villains (I tend to love that kind of interaction, so that's a personal preference), and the "survival" moments when they had no chalk and had to try to stay alive in a hostile and strange world with rapid rivers, icy caverns, rearranging pitch dark buildings, and more. And that camping.Β
As for what I might have liked to have seen done differently, would have been a bit more focus on the characters' thoughts and some pacing changes. But again, just my opinion.Β
But overall, it was a great read, and it had a lot going for it! Really glad I got to read it all! π―

I really liked the combee part. Combee is my one of favorite. Expecially the girl because she have a red spot on her head make her more prettyΒ Β

That combee who talked to the team when the combee army finally caught them, I am sure it was the female one.
As I know, the female is the dominant and also her state shows that she is stronger than the male combee. What is not surprised since she will become a queen soon or later. So I can imagine the girl combee is the bossy one xd
Also, their leader is their mother. Did you knew that? a queen is the mother of the thousends workers in the hive.Β
Pokemon took a lot of stuff from the real bees but changed two things.
1. more male than female. That because since only the girl can evolve, they needed to do that. Since in reality, in a hive, is only one male. And he will die after he mate with the queen.Β
2. The queen is the boss and stronger than the workers.
In real life, the queen is...helpless. XD she can't do anything outside the egg laying. She is a living egg maker machine.
The workers keep her alive only just to lay more eggs each day for the colony. But when the queen become old and unable to lay eggs anymore, the workers left her alone, and raise a new queen instead, let the old queen die.
It's sad but the bee's main rule is, keep the hive alive, whatever is the cost. If they have to reject a queen for that, the workers gladly do so.
So tecnically, the workers are the bosses. Everything for the shake of the hive.Β
And pokemon makers outside that two, kept everything what real bees do. The queen almost never leave her hive. And also she is who give birth to the workers. She rarely join into battle so she send out her army instead. In her skirt thing, she is raising the bulbs but I think the workers give food for the baibes also. XD so yeah, pokemon made the combee line really close to the real bees.

In the pokemon DP anime, seeing that huge combee wall was cool to see.Β I think those were the guards. usually hive has guards outside
