# About me
More art and t-shirts for sale at Redbubble www.redbubble.com/people/quigo… on my website www.quigonjim.co.uk/ and I have a Facebook art page here: www.facebook.com/quigonjimgrayI am an experienced Photoshop user and I also dabble in Painter and Illustrator and I poke about with the odd bit of Web Design occasionally.
Commisions are most welcome, whatever the subject matter, logo's, cartoon work, book covers, one off custom work. You decide!
At school, I decided that a career in the creative world was the path for me. I always enjoyed drawing and painting as a child and I seemed to do well in creative subjects. So in 1990, at Thanet College in Kent, I was lucky enough to be able to take three A-Levels: Graphic Design, Fine Art and Textile & Surface Design. While there I was taught by Mike Trim who worked on various Gerry Anderson projects and painted Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds album cover, and Russ Nicholson who spent his time illustrating the Fighting Fantasy role-play books and contributing to White Dwarf magazine. Those two in particular had a massive influence on me and I have been forever grateful ever since. From there I did a Foundation Course at kent Institute of Art & Design (KIAD) Canterbury, which lead onto Northbrook College, East Sussex, in 1994,to take an HND in Graphic Design & Illustration and from there into the big wide world!
Clients include:
Aon Insurance, Caravan Magazine, Paramount Care Homes Ltd, AccentUK Comics, Underfire Comics, Quellheart Publishing, Zel Pubs, and A La Mode Entertainment to name a few. And of course many, many private comissions for portraits, caricatures, custom leather jacket paintings, tattoo designs, nursery murals and one off design jobs for logo designs incuding stationary and headed paper, wedding invitations and brochures and what not.
INFLUENCES & INSPIRATIONS: -
Commercially: Drew Struzan, Richard Amsel and Bob Peak (movie poster artists), Roger Dean, Brian Froud, Dave McKean, Cam Kennedy, Mike McMahon, J. Scott Campbell, Adam Hughes and Jim Fitzpatrick to name but a few.
Historically: Alphonse Mucha, Gustav Klimt, Arthur Rackham, Norman Rockwell... the list goes on.
Current Residence: East Sussex. UK

Its nice to see Russ was decent to you at Thanet College.. He glibly told me that I would never make money drawing monsters and that I should quit whilst I was ahead..
Turns out he was wrong lol, made a nice career for myself creating monsters for people lol..
Kool illustrations mate, big respect

Howz it going James. If you recall, quite a few months ago I bought a few of your MotoGP posters. Unfortunately in my bloody relocation I've misplaced all the prints!
Do you still have the large Rossi, Stoner & Bayliss posters? I can't remember what price u offered me because we kept it off ebay. I'm gonna post your website link on my forum & see if others want to do a group buy too.

It's a deserved fave Ian. Your technique really reminds me of the motogp art prints of Colin Carter... which is a very good thing!!!

Thank you kindly James, I really appreciate that! You'll have to forgive me, I don't know Collin Carter, though I will look him up now. I would love to break into the MotoGP art market, and have been trying, but have had no success as of yet. It seems very closed, but I'd like to find a niche there as it might help support my career.

I'm having similar problems, and although I sell a stack of prints on eBay of my Superbike and MotoGP art. Getting into somewhere like GrandPrix Legends for example, to sell your work is darn near impossible.
I have considered setting up my own dedicated moto art website and inviting other like minded people to join in on the venture... The problem is the advertising side of things, actually getting people to come by your shop!
Keep plugging away, you'll get there
All the Best,
J.

I might just do that. Have you got any more in the pipeline?
I reckon a series of classics, like Schwantz, Ago, Doohan, Sheene, Hailwood, Lawson, Roberts Sr. etc will go down well. You could make some good coin with old-school racefans.
Like i said, if you want some new shots, just let me know. I'll be doing plenty of shooting this new season too.

Great idea, maybe I could use some of your shots for the basis of any future illustrations?
As for up and coming ones, well at the moment I'm inking and colouring a Casey Stoner and a Shakey from his last race for Airwaves.

Sweet. A Shakey pic is always good. So is one of Moaner on the Desmo.
By all means you can use some of my shots for reference. Once the new season is up, just let me know if there's anyone in particular who you're wanting to draw (the new GSE Yamaha outfit could be a tidy setup) and i'll try get some decent close-up stuff for you.

That would be great, I can only make Brands this year, so only two meets for me dammit. But James Ellison on the GSE Yam is a definite one that will be needed. As and when it all kicks off we can arrange some kind of hi-res pic swap if you fancy it?

The image swap sounds like a plan to me. I'm eagerly awaiting the beginning of the new seasons. All this football is mind-numbing...
