not that I know of...bryce has the best render engine (that ive heard of). you can up the rez (superfine / fine art) in the quality options....but that means longer render times...ive had renders that last for 3 days...especially if your dealing with reflections and glass...most people import from proggys (lightwave/3dsm) into bryce to use the render engine...
Ill look into some others to see if the engines fast/better quality

well as for tips..firstly I dive inside either a huge mirrored torus or sphere...then I add between 2 and 4 spherical lights...two coloured/gel'd and one pure white for highlights...I move those around inside the mirrored object...then comes the fun part..
I just move the camera around looking for interesting angles..warp the POV, rotate anything to get funky images...while this is happening the colours from the lights are being mixed and bounced inside the object....
Trinity was a little different...I used a huge canvas 1920x720 cinemascope (i think, could be wrong...heh) I added ummm lemme think an object I created, basically a sphere with rings around it, mirrored that, and basically took a wide angle shot..which I then rendered and mirrored in psp to get the symetrical look...the original render was kinda chaotic and ugly...
What I try to do is get texture with the lighting...use procedural gels...
anyway I hope this is some kind of help...if ya need anymore just drop me a note...

no problem..when u set up a light, hit the little [E] that will bring u up to the setup page (change colours etc) then hit the [use gel] tab, you can then use any pic as a texture/colour map...I have tons of backgrounds from my av painting days so I use those...but you can use any pic to get groovy patterns and colour gradients going on....hope this makes sense (im not sure it does lol my brain isnt working @ 100% yet lol), if not gimme another shout
