Maybe I could try to imitate the pattern by dry brushing water diluted paint onto fleece. I've done that before, only... It wouldn't be as soft and you couldn't get it wet...
Also, some of the patterns I saw on Google images weren't too detailed...
(Heads up, I've never sewn anything realistic looking, so I have no experience... I should have put that in the post...)
