I understand where you are coming from, but being a bit more gentle around the whole thing would have been a wise choice.
Oh and Deviantart is also about growth, not just enjoying other peoples artwork. I know that one of the main reasons I'm where I am today with my art is because of the constructive criticism/comments I received here.

my advice would be to keep practicing, always practice and over time, you'll get much better. I saw that the more you post art of what you think other's would enjoy, more people will follow you and check out your art. once you think you have a lot of followers, you can post different art and that will bring in more followers.
Try some new stuff and post your art into different groups!
