Still working on my indie ideas; got 4/6-7 of my Western comic's first arc done

Still working on various fan ideas too

nam3l3ss In reply to Dkalban [2015-01-09 22:56:55 +0000 UTC]

whats the difference btween your indie ideas than the fan ideas??

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dkalban In reply to nam3l3ss [2015-01-09 23:06:58 +0000 UTC]

Indie ideas are my own original stories and universes

Fan ideas use established universes and characters as well as some OCs I might want to pitch some day.

The Indie ideas are of course things I want to have published as comics whereas the fan ideas would only be published if I worked for DC or Marvel XD

nam3l3ss In reply to Dkalban [2015-01-10 00:09:41 +0000 UTC]

Thanx Daniel.
But isn't Invincible...just a superman/superboy story not publish by DC n in a different costume??

Sorry for not being clear.  WHat I was asking is...how are your ideas indy/fan ideas different than what other writers are doing.   How are they interesting, if i want to read them??  or like my friend says to me all the time...why would I want to read it??

I'll sent you a note.

Dkalban In reply to nam3l3ss [2015-01-10 00:14:51 +0000 UTC]

Well, the Ronin idea is something I want to pitch to DC because I designed him for DC XD

I am designing my own comic ideas, haven't hit on a good superhero idea. Been working on a cowboy hero comic.

I'll send the links to those scripts (at least what I got so far) when I reply to your note Along with some fan comics I've worked on

like the Ronin idea...dont know..if you'll be able to use Ronin as a name.
since they have already have published Ronin.

eh too on the nose as that is my surname XD

I've been looking into foreign language versions of various bird names. On the way to grab bagels for my folks this morning, I thought "Horus" might be a good one (especially for a scene about why he isn't dressed up in Egyptian clothing: "Really, just because I call myself 'Horus' I should be running around in all weather in a loincloth and headdress? No thanks!")

Yep. I am working on a cowboy hero comic; got 4/6 issues of the first arc scripted. But having this fan character also can help.

I saw, sent a reply. Looks great, and the way you set it up makes more sense than my original script.

nam3l3ss In reply to Dkalban [2015-01-26 20:20:56 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I read the emails.
I think, I also responded there......Yeah, I think....you had plenty of information for the pg.  Like I commented before...you have to see the pg as prime real-state.....and whats the more bang for your buck!!

I think the layout was just to show...a route in how to set-up..your set up.
I'm sure there are probable ten other ways to doing it.  What you were asking i thought was to move the audience along to what was happening and what's the next logical step.

panel 2 and 3....was technically the same panel and I saw it as an arrow being aim to viewer to jump to the next thing....also the last panel could very easily become pg2 as a stand-alone...money shot intro..for your Character to get that Orson Wells Upshot of his body( creating that Powerful movie treatment of how important he is, even thou we just met him.)  Clearly, this shot has been done( in the 1000s, since its turn into a Batman-thing).

That sounds like you have an eclectic Universe.  Doing a western theme.  Its that close to being publish??
I also thought about what you mention....that you plan to add a pitch bible to your script.  I want to hear more about that and how it can help you in getting your script accept it.

Dkalban In reply to nam3l3ss [2015-01-26 21:15:56 +0000 UTC]

At the moment all of these are in the "to get drawn" stage. Minus the Ronin one since that's something I'm saving to pitch to DC one day. The western one is closer to the hero idea.

Basically the pitch bible idea is to show my ideas going forward from the one shot, giving more information on the characters, ideas where to put him after the one shot, etc

Dkalban In reply to nam3l3ss [2015-02-11 12:47:13 +0000 UTC]

Not as often as I should, sadly. Given that I'm also job hunting, and none of my various ideas are in production, I can go weeks between "installments".

I've been cowriting something for the past couple days though

sounds like you need a bowl of bone broth! to get your creative vitamin up!

Yeah.  I'm writing more.  So, I do need days of rest between writing sessions.

If writing was easy...everybody would do it.  But, its like exercise...you gotta do it..otherwise there's not benefit.

So, whats on your reading list and what are you reading now??

Seriously, I read a ton of novels as a little kid, and I'm reading a ton of comics now XD

writing wise...for me.....im writing short stories..that can go either way......some of my longer stories....i have researched...i say 10yrs.
From those...i have turn some into concepts....for multi-media platforms.

im reading some comics....which is hard for me.....i need both art n story to be good....otherwise its like watchin a movie....w/bad acting.......or a great actor....working w/a bad script......n there seems to be more of that this days.

I reading also books...more in term...of research.  At the moment..i been going back n forth between...books i have already read at least more than twice......and analyzing....why...do i keep returning to this stories.
Dissecting the material as well as my reasons.....for my consumption of them.

well..if you get a deal...let me know.

I can always do cover work.
Interiors....I can only if its paid work.( cuz it takes up alot of time) and as you know.
Time is money.  Its also about planning the production n deadlines....n they dont always line-up.

I have had to turn comicbook work down...bcuz of it.  Some ppl think..you just press a button...n get pgs back.
Im sure you understand....even allocating time for it...it doesnt always pan it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dkalban In reply to nam3l3ss [2015-02-24 00:25:09 +0000 UTC]

Well right now I'm just hoping to get more of these ideas going first. One's in the developmental stage and the other is just getting started.

I understand it takes time to make a page. I hear getting a page a day done is a miracle.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

nam3l3ss In reply to Dkalban [2015-02-24 10:36:33 +0000 UTC]

no...not a miracle....its an issue of planning.
A pro artist should be able to produce 1-page a day...thats the standard.

I can only speak for myself.....but you layout the pg...n there is the approval stage..before you can start on the pencils.....most guys or gals.....would layout....half the book if not all of it....in one sitting....submitted to the editor and wait for the approval...or the notes...on what work n what they want change.  if you're good....you might get thru the approval stage in two rounds....n off to the races.

what happens, at least from the guys...i work w/ is you're juggling multiple projects at once.
That is also normal when you're freelancing.  Due to keepin the lights on.
Its rare....since not everyone pays on time.  or somethings get delay( its part of work)
You can have the script be late by a day or two.....or you get sick(or a relative does) n one day delays...turns into a week been behind.  But it depends on the company too.
If you were to say work at the house of M....n you got to work on a floppy...then your typically...on the backside of the deadline.

so if you're w/the BIG folks....then you can spend...your bulk of the day...working on the pages.

If you're on....a work for hire agreement....it comes w/its perks n pitfalls.  For 1...everyone says they have the nxt big thing!!  n most newbies.....think they can walk on water.....n forget...that outside of the written material....you need to connect w/the audience...not just grab their attention but deliver something tangible....and hold them captive.   guess whos the hamspter on the training wheel...the artist....n if his not excite it....how will the audience receive the idea.

well i can go on.....but i think you get the drift!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dkalban In reply to nam3l3ss [2015-02-24 12:38:39 +0000 UTC]

I get the drift. Plus we writers have it slightly easier (I can do a script in a day if need be)
