Idk man its a toss up between the Canon T1i and the Nikon d5100

You have to get a camera that has an internal auto focus motor - this will cut lens cost down 50%. The D5100 does not, the T1i does I think.

Lenses are really expensive too aren't they? Also where do you recommend that I buy my camera and equip.? I know that I will not buy used or refurbished. I want a brand new one.
Thank you soooo much for the tip, its a gem! I figured I would do my research before buying because for us $600-800 is a big deal...I did do tons of research but I still was not sure...I was leaning towards the canon already. I will investigate again because this camera is my bday xmas anniversary present and I want to make sure its gonna be worth it! lol

Lenses are pretty pricy. Honesty buy used lenses. Amazon is usually cheap, free shipping to. Local camera stores will always be really high, but sometimes offer good insurance deals. Just shop around for the best deal, and watch those shipping prices. But with Christmas coming up - a lot of webstores will do free shipping.
