Yo! I noticed one of your comments and I could immediately tell you were from Japan, and I was wondering if I could ask you a few questions that I haven't been able to find answers to. I'm very interested in Japan and its culture (mainly because of my obsession with JRPGs and Babymetal) as well as its history (particularly the Sengoku and Edo periods) and I would love to visit your country some day, which is why I want to get a few things cleared up before I do:
- What does "www" mean in text messages?
- How true is it that Japanese waiters and waitresses don't like to be tipped?
- I heard that tattoos were a bit socially inappropriate due to their association with the Yakuza, is this still the case?
- Why do many of the Japanese youth wear surgical masks? Is it a fashion thing or is it to prevent them from catching the flu or a cold?
- Which area of Japan do you believe is a great spot for tourists to see historical Japanese locations?

To clarify my second question, I heard it was considered rude to give a tip to waiters or waitresses at Japanese restaurants as a tip is seen as charity and that the person recieving it doesn't make enough money. I wasn't sure if that was true for all Japanese people or just some.

Interesting, I never knew some of these things before. I think the first spot I'll visit in Japan is the battlefield of Sekigahara, that battle is so interesting to me that I actually wrote a seven page paper about it in my world history class. Basically anything from 1400 - 1700 is very interesting to me.

I've found that a lot of people here in the U.S. don't know much about their
own country, much less anyone else's.
I post prayer updates about different countries. Part of the reason is to raise
awareness about what's going on in the rest of the world.
Recently I’ve started a personal initiative; if I notice someone on DA is from
another country, If I've done their country I let them know. It’s my way of letting
them know that others are thinking about their home.
