Well first, work on ACTUALLY supporting lgbt people, and looking at them as normal people without judging them- not even silently. Because you can SAY that you respect them whenever you want, but that means nothing if you still dislike them and think that the way they live their life is wrong JUST because they love someone of the same gender... If someone asks how you feel about gay people, your instinctive reaction should not be to say that they're gross. (Which, I understand you didn't mean that, but if 'disgusting' was the first word that came to your head then that is a problem)
