Hey you have some serius prop modeling/texturing talent. Would you possibly interested in helping us on our indie game project? We are developing cart racing game with ShiVa engine.

Contact me on janpecnik@hotmail.com if you are interested and if you have any spare time.

There is no any problem - in OrangeBox version of the engine you can mix cubemap and phong shaders, simply by putting their keys in vmt together.
They are using one specular map - contained in normalmap alpha.
Cubemap gives you metallic reflections, like thin scratches, and phong - gives nice specular effects on whole model.
But i recomend you to not using this effect too frequently. It's a huge impact for fps, especially on old video hardware (without universal shader conveyors)

VMT example:

"VertexLitGeneric"
{
"$baseTexture" "your texture"
"$bumpmap" "your normalmap"
"$envmap" "env_cubemap"
"$normalmapalphaenvmapmask" 1
"$envmaptint" "[0.1 0.1 0.1]"
"$envmapsaturation" 0.2
"$envmapcontrast" -3.8 //for metallic effects
//enables phong
"$phong" "1"
"$phongboost" "9"

"$phongfresnelranges" "[0.18 0.4 1]"
"$phongexponent" "15"
//rim-light effects. This shader is not working properly, yet, but it will, in ep3 engine. By now, you can delete this, if you want:
"$rimlight" "1" // To enable rim lighting (requires phong)
"$rimlightexponent" "1" // Exponent for phong component of rim lighting
"$rimlightboost" "0.5"
}
