Also, have you read or heard of 100 Years of Solitude? Really unique hispanic-ish style of "magical realism". You might enjoy the characters in it. It's really strange and beautiful as well.

I did; and 'dr' frankenstein annoyed the hell out of me with his self-righteous utterly moronic motives and excuses. Loved the visual description of the monster, though.

I've heard of it, but know nothing about it. I might have to look into it.

I found the imagery so beautiful.

I felt for the monster, man.


It was one of those books where the author is like.

HEY MAIN CHARACTER

I'M GONNA FUCK YOUR SHIT UP
AND YOU WONT KNOW WHAT HIT YOU.

I like that.

Let's all make up characters just so we can make them suffer.

It makes for much more compelling plots, predictable or not.

I dunno, at first I was like "Oh great, the monster's the only sensible one here... kewl", but then he turned out to be just as obnoxiously annoying as ol' frankenstein. They were made for each other...... yes pun intended (in retrospect).
Ever read the picture of dorian gray? Oddly enough I could put up with that one more easily, despite various characters annoying me again to great lengths.
