Hey, I saw your comment on one of 's deviation. She didn't have any tips on how to draw hands, but I do!

The hand is just another part of the body, so it's as complicated as anything else, really. It just looks intimidating since it's made of so many bones. In fact, it's easier to draw than a blank wall...(and I'm not being sarcastic; blank walls are perhaps the hardest things to draw since it's like trying to draw nothing! lol, anyways, back to my point...)

So just like anything else, my suggestion is to draw them in shapes (in this case, ellipses). There are 19 bones in the hand. When looking at your own hand, you can pretty much perceive 14 of them when you curl up your fingers, but don't forget that the palm has 5 of them behind your flesh. Why am I saying this? Because it's important to understand the structure.

Start by lightly sketching, w/ a 2H pencil, 19 ellipses that more or less, form a skeleton. After, go over, and outline the actual hand. The many ellipses will guide you, so that the hand doesn't go all wonky. If you look at your own hand (or in an anatomy book) the bones that form the palm (metacarpals) are the longest, so these shapes will be longer (obviously). Use your own hand as a reference in the beginning, but you'll quickly get used to the proportions of the bones.
