# About me
I'm a cosplayer, seamstress, and charity performer. I've spent two years working with Doctor Who fundraising and entertainment organisations such as Charity Dalek Squad and Our Doctor Who Monsters providing interactive entertainment for children of all ages and raising money for various causes. While cosplaying the Doctor's companion is fun, I wanted to flex my sewing muscles and have returned to my old fandom of Xena Warrior Princess to craft and display costumes as my favourite character from childhood, Gabrielle of Poteidia. It was actually last weekend!
I wouldn't worry about it though. I'm generally not a fan of the big exhibition hall conventions. I'm not hugely comfortable with big crowds and they are normally so busy you just wind up getting buffetted from one side of the venue to the other, queue up for an overpriced can of pepsi and a stale sandwich, then battle your way back outside to get a train. I may consider doing one again if I have somebody to go with but it's not something I could face on my own.
I've cut down my event attendance significantly over the past year. I used to do pretty much ALL of them but reached a point where it wasn't even fun. I prefer the more relaxed weekend conventions or smaller events in general. The one I'm really looking forward to is Midlands Xena Fest in July. My aim is to get Gab's next costume ready in time for that one!

I've had an account for years but only recently felt inclined to post. Trying to find alternative platforms to post costume pics in the absence of Facebook! Hopefully there will be more come July as I want to get another costume done in time for the XenaFest on July 19th.

Hmm, I'll do some searching and see what groups are out there for you - perhaps Twitter or Tumbler might offer some helpful opportunities? If you'd like, I also run a DA group known as and am aware that a lot of people over there are pretty familiar when it comes to cosplay.

I'm on Tumblr under "un-rescuable-schizo" (it's an Amanda Palmer quote) with a sum total of seven followers (yey me!) and Twitter under "badideasbear" but I try to keep Twitter rather separate from the cosplay stuff. I have contemplated a second account but I am notoriously bad at managing multiples.

That's totally understandable, and you're certainly well ahead of me; I couldn't work Tumbler/Twitter to save my life. I mainly lurk around DA, XOC or Fanfiction.net.

I've only recently got the hang of Tumblr. So far nothing has taken the place of Facebook in terms of seamlessly blending the day-to-day mundanities of the real world with an online space for sharing media, but sadly I've found it to be a very toxic space too and as such have decided to steer clear. Although I do miss it at times.

I hate to say it, but I have to agree and that's mainly the reason why I refuse to touch Facebook or other media platforms. They sometimes feel like too much of a
breeding ground for unnecessary drama, but that's just my opinion.

For me it was a very precise problem in that the people who were popular and who ran pages could get away with no end of shit and everybody else could go hang. I ran into problems with people such as this and when I tried to speak out I got shut down and pushed out. I was seen as the trouble maker because I dared to stand up for myself, because doing so made other people uncomfortable. I am, thus far, delighted by a total absence of this is in the Xena fandom (although i'm sure it can and does happen) and it really is a breath of fresh air.

I've never been much of a DH fan, but I can definitely see where you're coming from. You'll most likely encounter the same problems just about everywhere, which is kinda' sad when things tend to be based off of the popularity from one person compared to another and opinions just get thrown out the door.
I think that's what makes the Xena fandom such a great community though, because people are willing to listen and accept no matter what. But I certainly share your enthusiasm for living a less dramatized life when it comes to FB and the like.
