Awesome work ^^ it's fascinating what one can do with some metal rings and creativity.
I'm working on a shirt of maille meself (more practically oriented though, I plan to fight in it ... ^^), it sure is a lot of work but lots of fun at the same time ^^

lunabellvarga In reply to BloodRedFullMoon [2011-04-29 13:22:01 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. I love working in maille, there is something relaxing about it. I don't think I'll ever do a shirt. If I want one that bad I'll buy one from thinkgeek. The sheer amount of time and metal is well worth their price even if it isn't custom fit. Plus I can mod it myself. XD Send me pictures of yours so I can ogle your dedication!

BloodRedFullMoon In reply to lunabellvarga [2011-04-29 15:08:13 +0000 UTC]

Hah. Dedication is exactly the problem, it's nowhere near finished ... (Actually I might have a piece of 3000 rings maximum right now. But it's growing ... ^^)

I just saw ... you study biology? Focus on genetics? Nice ^^
That's just about what I'm studying. ('s called Molecular biology, actually ... )

lunabellvarga In reply to BloodRedFullMoon [2011-04-29 15:59:26 +0000 UTC]

My largest piece to date was the tie, it had around 8000. There's no way I'd get the shirt done. XD

No no, not molecular. Specifically genetics. Molecular encompasses more than just genetics. Then there is molecular genetics which is something different too. It took me a while to understand the different fields, but I want to learn genetics. It will take me a while to get there though. I'm almost done with all my bio courses now for my bachelors and we barely even touched genetics. I will get into that branch while I'm teaching in a year or two.

BloodRedFullMoon In reply to lunabellvarga [2011-04-29 21:43:17 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure I will get the shirt done, actually. If not the piece I have now will become the chain thingy for my helmet.

Yeah, I know that MolBio encompasses more than just genetics. But genetics is a field that interests me a lot, which is why I take courses specifically in that direction. (OK, I also take a lot of courses in BioInformatics, but that's just me being able to work easier if I have a screen in front of me ^^)

Potential use of you new micromaille. You could use the micromaille on the top of bags to provide for a tighter drawstring. The use of this would depend on the size of the contents of the pouch. My normal dice have no problem with falling out, but my set of smaller d6s (side = ~1.1 cm) might fall out depending on the orientation of the die closest to the hole. If the top die is right over the hole, then even with the bag the tightest it can be, it will wiggle out and once the tension of the bag is broken, the rest will trickle out.

Logistically, I see two problems with this. Firstly, you could need to use a thin string of reasonable strength. The gut of parachute cord could be used, but might leave the product looking of a lower quality.
Secondly, I don't know how feasible it is to adjoin micromaille to regular maille. I'm certain that it is possible, but the feasibility would depend on the weave(s) in question.

micro would be incredibly weak used like that. If you want yours to be tighter at the top I can easily do that. It just makes it to where the top edge is smaller. It doesn't look as good and it would be a lot harder to reach in and grab just one die, but if you want to, it can easily be done in 5 minutes or so next time you're down.

Dez384 In reply to lunabellvarga [2011-01-30 20:24:41 +0000 UTC]

It's not a problem. My d6s are in a rectangular prism and the regular set of dice stays in nicely. Just a thought

can you make or sell me a chain mail tie? silver and marroon? thanks!! (i don't have an etsy thingy so, snail mail address please!!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lunabellvarga In reply to DS-Dasher [2010-12-16 01:07:13 +0000 UTC]

I regret to inform you that I do not have maroon. I do have red however. A tie with pattern will be 175-205 USD (depending on pattern) including shipping if purchased within the next month during my sale.

I am on vacation right now without my supplies so I cannot begin work on the tie until after I return in January. You can see my journal for more information on my sale. The tie will take 2-4 weeks to make after that due to the sheer amount of links and time it takes to make one.

I can send you an invoice directly to your email that you can pay with debit or credit or I can give you my address if you'd like to send money the old fashioned way. I can say that I will not begin work until after payment is received due to the time it takes to make chainmaille and the fact that unweaving maille takes just as long as weaving maille.

If you are still interested please let me know color(s) and pattern and I can give you a final quote. I know the price is steep but it really is due to the enormous amount of hours that goes into making the tie. This is the only full tie of its kind however. If you would like a smaller tie that has a fake knot and is attached to a necklace I can do that too and it would be cheaper.

well, someone's being buesness-like its a bit unnessisary, im a colonial blacksmith so i understand the labor involved with these requests. i also have already read your buesness speech so spelling it out to me isn't nessasary.

anyway, im a minor so i don't have a credit or debit so snail-mail is my only option. i would like red and silver diaganal stripes. thick stripes please. how much of a price difference would there be between a full tie and a fake knot?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lunabellvarga In reply to DS-Dasher [2010-12-17 01:33:25 +0000 UTC]

^_^ I wasn't sure if you'd read it. You'd be amazed the amount of people that don't before asking me ordering questions.

Thick stripes should be an issue at all with that weave. I think it'd be fun to do as well. The full tie with that much color would be 195 with shipping right now. The half including knot and a chain maille chain to go around your neck would be 145. I can say that I have never made a fake knot, I've not had a call to yet. Unless you have another idea for it I would like to keep the knot in the same weave and as real looking as possible.

Snail mail is fine by me. I do prefer cash due to the small but possible potential of bounced checks. The best way to do that is mailing it at the post office in a bubble mailer and getting insurance and requesting delivery confirmation for such a large sum of money.
