Oh Ike!! How ya been dear? Life is chaos, at best here. Good, but still chaos. I learned how to use my sewing machine, and have made some fantastic hats for my loved ones for xmas, and scince the holiday have been in a bit of a funk. From what I understand, MOST people get into their funk BEFORE the holidays, but I am, clearly, not most people. Anyhow, I just wanted to say hi, and tell you how cool that link about the bdays is your very thoughtful. Hope I get to be around more soon!!

Hey Liz! Good to see you again!

I've stopped doing the birthday features since then... just been so busy with hectic life over here and wanted to do some other kinds of projects, like now I'm doing interviews with other webcomic authors. Got temporary custody of the kids in February (yeah, I'm pretty sure we haven't talked most of this year, wow), and then we had 6 people in a 2 bedroom apartment. So we had to move... but we had to wait 'till our lease was up and moved on the 1st of Nov into a 4 bed house that's still slightly too small and more than we can afford... and then I got permanent custody of the kids on the 11th.

And then this month my ex finally saw a doctor and got admitted to the hospital and we found out that she's got "massive Alzheimer's like damage" in her brain -- which is code for "she's developed Alzheimer's like you thought, but we're still in denial about it". She's only 41. The doctors also said apparently that the dementia is coupled with schizophrenia... and yet, despite the doctor's recommendation that she couldn't care for herself, the judge denied their request to have her placed in state care. I think that's financial politics... And having been out about a week, she's not taking her meds and her father who's supposed to be looking out for her isn't making sure she does.

This year's been a roller-coaster!

Anyway, good to hear that life is good at your end!

Oh Ike! Gratz!! Im so glad you got your kids!!! I'm ok, of course, up and down like always, but mostly life is good. What can you do to keep her on her medications? Poor thing. Well, I'm out of here again, but I'm so glad to hear your good news.

Short of going over there every day and making her take them I'm not sure there is anything we can do... I think the likelihood is that she'll disappear a few more times (she disappeared for 3+ hours last night) and then eventually a judge will admit that she needs to be in permanent care like her mother already is. It's a condition that runs in the family -- her mother, grandmother and great-grandmother all had it... So there's an obvious concern for my daughters, who I hope will start getting themselves checked regularly in their mid-20's.

Hey, Liz! Yeah, it's great to hear from you again!

Haven't heard from you in must be well over a year. Congrats on the baby and the hubby... or wife... I'm not here to judge. What are their names? Boy or girl?

The kids' mother died briefly due to taking someone else's drugs, appears to have lost all higher functions, including language, and is in a permanent care facility in east Dallas. It blows, especially for the kids, but the best thing we can do is move on.

The kids are doing much, much better! Alex is in her senior year of high-school and her boyfriend decided to move to Ohio with us. They're both 18 now, so who knows when they'll decide to move away. Alex definitely isn't ready for that yet. Calli and Nick are all caught up in school and healthy -- only thing left is a few straggling behavior issues with Nick.

Tiff and I are doing great. We got married. We're a little nerve-wracked today, waiting to hear back from a realtor about an offer we put on a house in Dayton, Ohio (15 hrs drive). Either we'll get it and the move will be a struggle with 6 people and only $5k, or we'll probably move into our #2 pick in Akron and have $15-20k leftover to invest. So keep your fingers crossed for us!

Where are you by the way? I thought I remembered you being from Ohio?

holy. cats. The baby's name is Pommy, he is beautiful. His dads name is Pom also, so the baby is actually Pom IV! Im sorry to hear about the kids' mom, thats messed up. Im glad to hear youa re Ohio bound! We'll be neighbors!! Congrats to you and Tiff!!! We just did that too, it was more nerve wracking than I imagined it could be. My MS has sort of been in free fall since the baby, it puts so much stress on the body. But he was worth it, and now my daughter doesnt have to be an only child!! YAY! Akron is way closer to me than Dayton, so if you end up there, please let me know! I could (pheasably) actually visit!! Im in Kent. Akorn is like 20 minutes away maybe? Thats not much. I am so glad to hear from you again! <3

Ah, so Pom IV must have some new features not found in the previous version!

Either way, I'm sure I'll be doing conventions in Akron. If we end up in Dayton, I'll take you out to dinner sometime when I'm up that way for a con. Coming from a sprawl like DFW, I consider Akron and Kent both suburbs of Cleveland anyhow... I'm used to having to drive an hour or so to get a friend's place around here.

i wish i had EVER surfed. coordination, its just not where i excell. i cant even rollerskate, i envy ur ever having gotten to do so. and i understand the unkillable feeling, but dont we ALL get checked for such thinking?! i know i do, every time i think im invincible, i am put in my place. i cant imagine the terror and pain of that much water. there, friend, i do not envy you.
