danke fΓΌr die Uhr! You are the bees knees.
PS I hope I used the right words, my German is... iffy.

Not sure if I know what you mean by 'Uhr' (which means clock or watch, depending), yet have never been so pleased at being likened to insect anatomy

Hahaha, I got it confused with "watch," I took that too literal. *facepalm*
And yay!

I see I don't think we actually have an appropriate word for 'watch' as it is meant here...
Anyway, always pleased to find someone who knows my language. Personally I'm glad I never had to learn it as a foreign language. Our grammar is mad.

Hahaha, yes, German is a very intricate language it seems.

That's a much more polite way of putting it, I suppose. Anyway, intricacies are what makes languages so intriguing, I think.
So how did you come across German in the first place, if I may be so bold to ask?

star42 In reply to lilac-airwave [2011-12-05 18:25:27 +0000 UTC]
Hahaha, agreed! Language is fascinating. Well my grandmother is German and they offer it at my high school, so my brothers and I took it as a class. I only took four semesters though. I was never very good at it.

Yeah, we have an intriguing history together. Whenever I see film credits I am vastly amused by how many German surnames there are.
There's even an app for that: "German traces NYC" [link]

That's really cool! And yes, I agree, we do. There is a lot of German ancestry here in America. I have it on both sides, (which is probably why whenever my grandmothers make their German chocolate cakes, it's so delicious).

Dude, I so have been fantasizing about chocolate cakes since I read that...
The mere thought is making me gain weight.
So, have you ever been to Germany?

Hahaha, me too, everything that tastes good is so unhealthy. :C
And no, sadly :C I might go there for a graduation gift, but we'll see. Europe is fascinating, I would love to visit.

I totally want to! So if you see any Ludemanns running around that's my family, hahaha. I also have very strong roots in Scotland, well, England, but they're Scots who settled and built Baildon in West Yorkshire, England. (however, the Baildons were kicked out). :C

Ludemann isn't even that common a name Apparently most live around Cologne
Scotland is cool too. I so want to go there sometime! Haven't really made it that far north yet
