Certainly 
After college and some years of employments, I finally started picking it up seriously again in 2016 wanting to materialize the imaginations in my head and inspirations from medias (games, shows) and the artists over the internet. There was a massive gap devoid of drawing, but I was still checking out people's artworks and videos during those years so I was not exactly detached.

You label yourself a hobbyist, but have you considered going beyond that if there was money in your practice?

I believe money (and a good sum of it) is pretty much the prerequisite for anyone to want to go beyond that, since we would be talking about career. For me, it depends on the kinds of opportunities that arise but I am not betting on it. I am comfortable with my 'engineer by the day, artist by the night' status. I love being both, but I have been building myself as the former longer and it's hard to deny that the former is much more stable in general, something that is essential and expected around my age. So I like art, am serious about it, enjoy working on it with or without pressure, will probably stick with it forever, but so far have no vision to rely on it for living; all while keeping an open mind.

I just want to talk to you about the perhaps most popular programming tool out there: Unreal Engine 4.
Game Engine Technology by Unreal
As you may, or rather probably, already know, it really is useful for creating homemade games, fangames included.
I am not so sure that I can tell you anything about it that you do not already know, but I think it could be useful to get people to become more aware of great media that despite its greatness is unfortunately for us is very obscure.
For example; Those who enjoy the French animated series of Galactik Football, and have good enough computing skills, could probably create a Soccer-themed Sports-RPG based on the cartoon.
Still, some people might compare it to Level-5's Inazuma Eleven franchise, as well as perhaps the two Mario-themed soccer games that Next Level Games co-developed with Nintendo SPD Group No. 3.
