I liked "A Matter of Life and Death" (also known as "Stairway to Heaven").Β Also like (for other reasons) eggplant, like you do.Β

Hurray! It's such a wonderful film!Β
Are there any particular preparations of eggplant you like best?

Eggplant parmegian when someone makes it well (with a meat sauce).Β Also cut up (sliced) pieces of eggplant served with carrots, celery, and other vegetables as finger food to be dipped into some bowl of saled dressing (green goddess or thousand island - you can see what I mean).Β
As for the movie, I loved seeing Roger Livesey's character, who is killed in a motorcycle accident, so he is able to represent Niven at the celestial trial.Β He has a funny moment with opponent Raymond Massey (as an American Revolutionary who hates the British) where Massey shows the "voice of Britain" and plays a radio with some person whose words are ponderous and difficult to hear or understand.Β Livesey plays a radio and says "the voice of America" and Massey has to admit he can't understand a word of the modern slang talk that is coming over the airwaves.Β
Liked Marius Goring as the French Revolutionary dandy who is Niven's guide in the afterlife.

Hello! I wanted to thank you for favoriting of one of my deviations. And now seeing that I've quite missed this nice comment of yours which I must apologize for taking so long to reply!!
I too enjoy eggplant parmesan. Although I think I prefer a marinara to a meat sauce ^u^Β
Oh yes! I love the shocked expression on Massey's face when he hears "the voice of America." And also the fact that Marius Goring's character was the one to bring it to their attention!Β
I was rewatching this film recently and I thought it was interesting that Dr. Reeves had died and joined Peter in his mind to help save him. And then contrarily the judge turned out to be the surgeon working on his physical operation. It leaves an uncertainty as to whether or not those events in the afterworld were real or simply a product of Peter's imagination. What do you think?

Actually I had forgotten the judge is also the surgeon.Β I like ambiguity in movies, leaving you wondering what was going to happen next - like Chaplin's famous tentative smile to Virginia Cherrll with the comment "You can see now?" (and her saying, "YesΒ I can!") at the end of "City Lights".Β What did happen next.Β She must have thanked him, but did they get together or not?Β The end of "Modern Times" (with the tramp and Paulette Goddard walking down the road together into that perennial sunset) was more optimistic.Β Woody Allen somewhat copied the "City Lights" ending at the end of "Manhattan".Β
Personally my favorite Powell/Pressburger films are "Black Narcissus" and "The Red Shoes".Β What do you think of them?
