Will you be stopping by Anime Expo again this year?

kneazlegurl125 In reply to LiLMoon [2013-12-22 22:30:56 +0000 UTC]
OMG this is such a late reply! Β I haven't logged in on deviantart in over a year my account is piled high with tons of updates D:
I hadn't gone to Anime Expo this year mostly cuz of lack of interest on my friend's part. Β I may or may not go next year for 2014, will hafto see.
So how are you doing?! Β It's been so long!
Last I updated was the eye surgery in my journal from last year. Β Things went well, I still have retinal weakness (lattice degeneration) in the right eye and had laser treatment done and second time earlier this month. Β Will follow up with the retinal specialist in 4 more months.
Work has been doing ok, normal as ever and I will be going back to school again in the upcoming spring for my bachelors of science in nursing. Β I'm dragging my feet, after two years of not having to go to school, I'm dreading going back again
Essays and research and group projects...bleh.
Well will see how this goes. Β Hope you are having a merry holiday season

Hi! It's good to hear from you again. I hope you had a good holiday season. Mine was ok. I'm glad to hear your eyes are doing better.
I'm done with school now. I'm just waiting to have my diploma mailed for it to be official, but I got my BA in art. I'm taking a semester off so I can work more on my crafts. ThenΒ I plan to go back for a MA. I will be at AX again this year so perhaps we'll see each other then.
I look forward to see the little keychains you are making.

i really love your charms! How do you get them looking so neat and perfect. I just started painting some of mine however I don't think I'm very good. Getting into the tiny nooks and crannies are such a pain. Any advice?
π: 0 β©: 1
kneazlegurl125 In reply to Marielishere [2012-10-07 04:48:35 +0000 UTC]
you get much better with consistent practice. my first charms weren't very good and some were pretty messy as well, but as i kept making more i had an idea as to how the paint would react. tiny nooks and crannies are a big pain! for hard to reach spots i would have a fine brush that the bristles dried on hard and curved because i left the brush to dry by accident with the brush tip facing down in a cup. that brush became my go-to brush for when i needed to get into corners and the shape of the brush was perfect. as you practice more, you learn to control your fingers. they will become more steadier, which is perfect for when you need to paint on details. i use tooth picks to dab on details like beady eyes and smiley faces.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try to recreate your special brush for nooks and crannies! I agree practice makes perfect!

YES! I thought I saw you too but you kept walking before I could have said anything. I only went for the one day for a couple of hours looking through exhibit hall and artist alley. I thought you were gonna sell this year so I was gonna stop and say hi but I didn't see your table and i combed through each aisle pretty carefully.

O.o You weren't wearing a dealer's badge were you? Oh wait, I don't think that was you cause that was on Monday... I was there. I was at table E18 so I was kinda close to the front. I even had a corner table with my sign up. I don't know how you could have missed it?

kneazlegurl125 In reply to LiLMoon [2012-07-10 00:21:53 +0000 UTC]
well the fact that i'm short and people were crowding might be a major factor in this. I bought the one day exhibit hall pass that was $20 for pre-reg. i was sitting at a table at the cafeteria place with a friend and i saw you walk by but before i could holler you were gone it was crazy the amount of attendees this year. my friend and i went early and the crowd was so dense but by noon it was jammed packed!
π: 0 β©: 1
LiLMoon In reply to kneazlegurl125 [2012-07-10 04:03:13 +0000 UTC]
D< Then it WAS you! I passed by you when you were sitting around the cafeteria. I recognized your face, but I wasn't sure because you said you weren't going. So I dropped my stuff off at my table and walked back. I walked slowly, but I was too embarrassed to ask if it was you. Then I saw you look up at me and went back to talking to that guy so I figured it wasn't you otherwise you would have said something.

i wasn't wearing my glasses!! omg lol!! if i looked at you i might have noticed you but couldn't discern that it was really you since really without my glasses or contacts i'm pretty blind and everything is fuzzy. you should have just come up and asked Linda? Is that you? lol plenty of people mistake me for other people before. One guy started a full on conversation with me once in a parking lot. after about 3 minutes i asked him if he needed something and he said no, i thought you were somebody else, i didn't expect you to say "hi" back. in which i replied i can't not say "hi" to a person if they said "hi" to me first. It would be rude.

*sigh* we'll see if we can hang out next year, but next year my priority is going to see if i can score some san diego comic con tickets. this year's comic con in san diego is so awesome and i'm so envious that i'm not there!

It'd be awesome if you could go. I've been wanting to go for years, but San Diego is just such a long drive for me. Maybe 1 year.
π: 0 β©: 1
kneazlegurl125 In reply to LiLMoon [2012-07-25 04:02:05 +0000 UTC]
It's a long drive but it would be so worth it! Drive for half a day and plan out pit stops. Of course you should make sure you can carpool with friends. I would imagine if you drove non-stop, lets see from where i live to San Jose is about 6 hours...from where i live to San Diego is about 2 hours, so that would be an 8 hour drive for you. Dang, yeah that's a far drive, but it's possible.
I really wanna see if I can go next year. I still don't have that nursing job yet, still working as a medical assistant but any which case, I actually have money saved up and time to utilize! I don't have to worry about school getting in the way so next year would be the perfect time to go. Actually this year would have been the perfect time to go but tickets went on sale while I was studying for my NCLEX so it never occurred to me to buy tickets in advance. T.T Anyway, how's school going for you? How many more years will it be until you graduate?

LiLMoon In reply to kneazlegurl125 [2012-08-12 03:46:10 +0000 UTC]
XD Actually I live closer than San Jose so I think it's actually a 6 hour drive for me.
I'm sure you'll be able to go. Like you said, you don't have to worry about school now so that's awesome! School is going good, but I used up all my grants so I have to pay out of pocket for this year. O.o Luckily my plushies covered it for this semester. I'll be graduating in the summer, but I don't feel I really learned anything. I'll have a BA, enough to get a basic job, but not enough to really work in my art major. Not sure what I'll do once I graduate. I still want to go to school, maybe get an MA in art. But I'm not sure where.

see whether or not you can apply for federal aid anyway. i got financial aid for the entirety of college and that was 5 1/2 years. would have finished school in 4 years if the nursing programs hadn't been so impacted causing me to wait. but anyway fafsa should would still offer some money, which is better than none. if you don't get money, then at the very least you may get some fees waivered so you don't have to pay for some units.

I tried. Sadly I didn't get anything from anybody. XP Techniqually I could graduate this semester, but it's actually easier and cheaper for me just to do the whole year.

aww, that sucks. well i hope things go well and it's awesome you were able to cover your semester expenses with your plushies. man, i feel like i'm getting uber lazy after graduating. after applying to 7 different places after passing my board exam and receiving my license i haven't gotten any calls back. it's super depressing, but i'm lucky at least to be working as a med assistant right now for the doctor i'm working for. but working so much has put a strain on doing projects. since fall is coming, which means back to school and all that jazz, this is my first year not going back to school. and just going from work then back home and then back to work again is putting a damper on my creative processes. i'm getting itchy fingers wanting to craft again, or do something artsy, but there's not enough time.

I noticed that you paint your charms.....I just wanted to ask.....how do you prevent them from getting a crackled look when you glaze them? I can't seem to paint my charms without getting this crackle effect.

kneazlegurl125 In reply to RICKYsneeze [2012-01-18 03:28:25 +0000 UTC]
Yeah I know what you mean. The new sculpey formula for gloss has cracked a lot of the paint on my charms lately, so what I did to minimize it was this: essentially I use two kinds of gloss. One of which is the sculpey brand and the other is delta brand. I take a little bit of the sculpey, maybe like a fifth of the little bottle and pour it into another container. Then I pour a little bit of water, maybe like an ounce and I mix. In a seperate container I do the same for the delta brand gloss except I pour like a fourth or a third full in an empty sculpey gloss jar. Also make sure your acrylic paint you use is regular acrylic and not the high quality-used-for-outdoors acrylic. If you put gloss on that then it will crack worse. So when I paint on the gloss I paint a thin layer of the sculpey gloss first. When its semi dry, and in some cases starting to crack then go ahead and paint on the delta gloss. Allow to dry then put on another layer of delta gloss. Repeat however many times you want for the gloss consistency you want on your clay works. The delta gloss acts as a sealing agent between the cracks while the sculpey gloss underneath doesn't discolor the acrylic. If there are still some minor cracking then paint over with acrylic paint, allow to dry then gloss it with delta gloss.

you're not. it's sculpey's fault!!! why did they change the formula???!!! it was seriously easier just to use one type of gloss instead of jumping around like i had to do to minimize the cracking.
anyway your welcome!
