That explains a few things.

I really admire those folks.  It's an incredibly brave thing they're doing, risking their freedom and maybe even their lives by defying the Chinese government to get this information out to the world.  they're fighting for a noble cause, and we should do what we can to support them.

But they're not journalists.  They're activists, even a resistance.  There's a difference.  By definition, they have an agenda.  Do you remember all the "slam dunk" intelligence Bush had about Saddam's WMD in the run up to the Iraq War?  Most of that came from an Iraqi dissident codenamed Curveball.  He was also fighting against an oppressive, tyrannical regime in his homeland, just like these folks in China.

I'm not telling you not to listen to what these folks have to say, but you should temper it with real journalism and not simply take it at face value.  Remember that Chinese invasion of Taiwan that was supposed to have happened a few months ago?

Well activism is all journalism according to most journalists oddly enough only Tucker Carlson has been against that and he is an editorial troll. Frankly a trade war was according to them in 2015 a peaceful way to stop an invasion of Taiwan. Although I am more of the mind that Corona Virus is a mixed blessing the PLA is unable to do anything. Still the group may be activist but well they meet standards Curveball never met. Also yeah I know they are a bit non-news like. Frankly give them a watch it won't hurt you. Also the invasion was slated to take place between March and May so yeah its likely not happening as the Corona outbreak started in January. Microbes are a real equalizer nothing to be done against them with laws, borders, and modern weapons.

Hey, this is kind of off topic, but have you heard about NASA has been overlooking evidence if life on Venus for decades?  It all started with declassified Soviet era imagery from the Venera probes, which show what appears to be some sort of small creature on the surface.  A closer analysis of the probe's data revealed that the Venusian atmosphere is anomalously depleted of hydrogen near the surface, which is believed to only be possible due to biological activity.  Radar returns from orbiters show strange surface features that seem to come and go with the seasons.  And finally reanalysis of meteorites originating from Venus has revealed what can only be microfossils, clearly indicating the presence of life on ancient Venus.

So what do you think?  Does that seem credible to you?  Do you believe it?  Would you believe it if you saw that story on one of your favorite websites?

You cannot tell whether or not a story is true simply on the basis of whether or not it sounds good.  It is not at all hard to simply make up a story that sounds good.  That's why con artist is one of the oldest professions out there.  Credibility of your sources matters.  Professionalism matters.  Expertise matters.  And saying that, "Well activism is all journalism," is saying that there's no such thing as objective truth, that there's no such thing as real facts.  That there's only what you want to hear, what you want to believe, and what serves to stroke your ego.  That's saying that's all you care about and nothing else matters to you.  Is that the sort of person you are?  Is that the sort of person you want to be?

The agenda of real journalists is the truth.  Period.  The fact that they do not just tell you what you want to hear does not make them part of grand liberal conspiracy out to get you.

Yes, the Chinese government is authoritarian, oppressive, and has global ambitions.  Yes, they are the US's greatest long term strategic challenge.  No, they are not out to deliberately start a war.  They're despots, not idiots.  And they know full well just how devastating a war with the US would be to their country.  And you should know just how devastating a war with China would be to the US.  You need to stop thinking of war as a legitimate tool of diplomacy.  It's not.  It's how the world ends.

Had Trump not sat around on his lazy fat ass for two months doing nothing, we could have had enough tests to do actual surveillance.  We could have detected the virus when it first arrived, done contact tracing and quarantines, and instituted social distancing in time to prevent what we've been seeing in New York.  The reason NYC is being hit so hard is because we waited far too long to counter measures, because we didn't have tests and didn't know what was going on.  We still don't have enough tests to track this thing.  The result of the incomprehensible levels of Trump's incompetence is that the US is now the world wide epicenter of the pandemic.  It didn't have to be this way.

Vaccines do not work that way.  You are thinking of antibiotics, which are only effective against bacterial diseases.  Viruses are as different from bacteria as bacteria are from us.

The Black Death killed at least a third of the total population of Europe.  Covid isn't even remotely close to being in the same category.

Incidentally, no I didn't look up that tidbit about severe radiation poisoning being like your body dissolving around you.  I'm no expert, but I've made sure to educate myself about the effects of nuclear weapons.  For example, did you know that one of the most devastating effects of a nuclear weapon isn't really the blast itself.  It's the fact that a nuke produces so much radiative energy that it heats everything in a direct line of sight so much that anything flammable will spontaneously burst into flames.  Many victims are burned to death when their entire city is instantaneously set on fire.

Let me guess, you've never actually been to Chicago, Newark, or Detroit, have you?  Because you're talking about a caricature of how things were 30 years ago.  Violent crime has dropped dramatically since its peak in the early 90's and is now at similar levels to what it was in the late 60's.  And guess what?  Violent crime doesn't just happen in big cities.  It happens in small towns and rural areas too.  Most murders are committed by family members and close associates.  So no, you're not going to get shot just walking down the street.  Yes, many cities have problems.  But what causes those problems?  Crime is about lack of opportunity and lack of education.  You have crumbling infrastructure due to a lack of investment.  You have the flight of corporations and the wealthy to tax havens leaving the cities with no tax base.  It's Republicans who have refused to tax the wealthy responsibly at a national level to provide the funding we need for infrastructure, research, and education.  It's Republicans who insist that schools be funded locally so that poor people are stuck in lousy schools with no way out.  And those Republican policies are spreading the problems.  The opioid epidemic?  The drop in life expectancy for middle aged working class whites due to suicide, substance abuse, and other diseases of despair?  Those are the same things that devastated the cities in the 80's and 90's.  White people thought they could leave the cities and shut up black people and poor people there and just leave them to rot, and now those same whites are suffering from the same social ills they visited on minorities.  Pure karma, if you ask me.

And what exactly are you trying to prove with those covid links?  That the public health authorities were telling people not to panic?  Well duh.  People going out and buying up a year's supply of toilet paper does no one any good.  Yes, in late January we thought that covid wasn't circulating in the US yet.  Turns out we were wrong.  That doesn't change the fact that we knew that it was circulating in China and that it was only a matter of time before it spread.  It doesn't change the fact that Trump was warned about the danger and he did nothing.  It doesn't change the fact that gee, whaddya know, it turns out that putting an incompetent idiot in the White House is actually a bad idea and gets people killed.  We're almost two months into this and testing is still grossly inadequate.  We still have shortages of protective equipment for health care workers.  And now Trump is leading the charge the reopen prematurely and is going to cause a big spike in cases in a month or two that will kill even more people.

I take it this means you're still not ready to deal with reality?  The reality that we cannot go to war with Russia or China.  The reality that those governments are nevertheless still hostile to differing degrees and need to be dealt with.  The reality that the Russians did indeed attack our election in 2016 and are continuing to do so.  The reality that Trump is an incompetent idiot.  the reality that Trump's incompetence is killing people.  The reality that even though cities are full of black people, immigrants, poor people, and liberals they are not in fact gunfire riddled war zones.

Seriously?  Your response is to deny the blatantly obvious?  Mueller had 400 pages of nothing.  Multiple indictments and guilty pleas is nothing.  Because it's only the CIA mind control rays that make all those court documents look like something.  Better make sure you don't run out of tin foil during the pandemic lockdown, otherwise the aliens are gonna getchya.

Mueller isn't Special counsel anymore.  In fact he's not part of the Justice Department at all anymore and he had nothing to do with dropping the charges against Flynn.  That was done by Barr for blatantly political reasons.  And then there's the little matters of Manafort, Papodopolous, Cohen, the indictments against assorted Russians, and so on and so on.

The main allegations of the Steele Dossier are that Putin actively favored Trump over Clinton in 2016, that the Russians conducted election interference to help Trump and hurt Clinton, and that multiple members of the Trump campaign had secret contacts with the Russians.  None of which is even remotely disputable at this point unless you're completely out of touch with reality and think that Hillary Clinton is really a reptillian alien in disguise.
