Hey Justin! I really enjoy the work you do on the paper wings! I have a question for you thatβs been on my mind for a while. What is the first thing an art director looks for in a portfolio when they are looking for a storyboard artist?Β

I had never heard of that podcast before some animation blog linked to it, and I can't tell you how INSANELY helpful just the episode you were on helped me. I really, really want to get into animation so I'm trying to learn about every angle of it (storyboard, scripts, etc, despite actually wanting to ANIMATE) and that was so helpful for me, to know what goes into storyboarding. So thank you, so much.

Is film on paper going to available for next year?
I wanna join now but I'm afraid I won't be able to pay for it

jusdog In reply to Ark-illustrates [2014-02-10 20:35:59 +0000 UTC]
We plan on having it going for a while, but next year is a loooong time from now:] I'm sorry about your financial troubles, I know how it feels all too well. But if you can try and come up with the tuition, i promise that the course will be well worth it. We know that a free class would be awesome, and help tons upon tons of struggling artists out there, but honestly, when I have someones hard earned money in my bank account, it's a level of accountability that helps me to do my job better. I want you to leave as a changed artist!
Hopefully I can see you around the digital campus one day soon;]

Thanks man!! Don't worry I completely understand and honestly a 3 month course worth only $600 Β and change is a steal -in good way of course -! It's so well worth it, Christ Oatley has never let us down before and I know having you on board is Β making it even more worth it. I can't afford it right now and I was hoping to be able to get in the first audition deadline but I'm honestly not sure at this point and I'd rather have someone who can -with out a doubt- afford it be in the course than me who isn't sure right now. Β
I will definitely take your advice about story boarding so I can further improve my art, story telling skills, and comics. Thanks again for the reply! And yes, hopefully we'll be seeing each other in the digital campus
-PeaceΒ

Been reading your journals and comments and their very inspiring. Trying to break into comics but I'm a total newbie to drawing and art so to hear this stuff pushes me to work harder. Your work in general is inspiring. Hopefully you put up tons more goodies in the future. Β

Thank you very much T. I know that it seems very difficult at first, but heck, what isn't? Ya know? It's all about getting better, nothing else. The goal is for you to be able to do it from 'within', without much inspiration from 'without.' Once you get there, then you'll have made it far. Good luck:]

Your so silly:]
I never thought that I'd hear those comments when I was struggling 10 years ago! I'm only good at what I know. Don't try to be as good as anyone, instead, focus on telling a good story. Drawing comes with doing it a lot! I was still struggling when I moved out here 3 years ago, but this job makes me draw so much everyday, that I have no choice but to get better over time! The thing that is hard to get good at is storytelling. I had to learn how to write in order to get better at telling a good story!
Thank you:] I will post more boards very very soon!

HEY thats what SHaun says too! Id rather be awesome at story telling and bad at drawing than the other way around. THanks Justin Ill think more on this. ANd yea you are right because my drawings have already become so much better the more storyboards I do so Ill worry less about my drawings and worry more about how to tell my story. GOD i get so angry and frustrated especially when I see ppl like you and Jeff and Shaun drawing....=_=
YAY MORE BOARDS IM SO EXCITED!!!

I missed this reply!
I am well. Mostly penciling now, but I will always have fun throwing ink over the right collaborator.
Are you really thinking of starting a course. I learned some storyboarding form my pops but I would like to learn all the vocabulary and stuff. Even though I don't want to do it as a job, I just love storyboards.
