# About me
Boyett Resuello’s professional career has always centered around Products and Design and Experiences. While working for an awesome design firm in Portland, Oregon has certainly prepared him for the world of consumer behaviors, crazy deadlines, CAD related software and multi-functional teams, it also (somewhat) conditioned him for the world of Art and Comics and Conventions. Life has definitely changed, Comics seemed equivalent to Design, same animal but with a different skin (though some days it still doesn’t feel like it for him), and just about the only thing he could call multi-functional was the printer in his studio. Quite a different world from what he was used to for more than a decade.Largely self-taught as an artist, Boyett’s return into the world of comics and its dizzying array of mind boggling artistic talent was largely due to a couple of visits to comic conventions, shadowing his longtime best friend and being guided and helped by David Wong, a successful artist with 20+ year experience and a fan favorite at some of these cons. Thinking boldly and somewhat foolishly, Boyett had the crazy idea that maybe…maybe he can try to do comics-based art just like David and some of the artists he'd long admired from his comic-book reading days as a kid. And in some ways, it seemed fitting that Boyett felt he’d come full circle. Comics helped him to read and understand English better as a newly-arrived immigrant from the Philippines back in the late 70s. Comics led him to appreciate art, to admire long-time favorite artists like John Romita Sr., John Buscema, John Byrne to name a few. Comics indirectly led him to study Industrial Design and parlay that appreciation for drawing and art into a successful design career. And now, it seemed Comics held the answer to a looming scary question that had festered in his mind back in 2011: Is there Life after Design?
These days, when he isn’t busy with Design and contract work, Boyett can be found at his standing desk, hunched over his Wacom Cintiq working on drawings, anticipating with bated breath the new iPad Pro/Apple Pencil that could potentially replace his current iPadAir/Sketchbook Pro/Pencil by 53 mobile setup, poring over and absorbing his collection of ImagineFx magazines (his self-proclaimed bible of tips and tutorials), studiously admiring and studying (newly discovered for him) artist favorites like Adam Hughes, Jim Lee, Adi Granov, Alex Ross, Frank Quitely, Jae Lee, Sara Pichelli, Andrea Sorrentino, Steve McNiven, Olivier Coipel,Phil Noto, Russell Dauterman (and myriad more artists too many to name) and wondering with a mixture of admiration and a touch of despair if he can ever draw like them? It’s a long road in front and nothing for him to do but roll up his sleeves, forge ahead, keep improving while shouting his battlecry of “Progress, not Perfection!"
“Thanks for your support and your critiques. Maybe we can collaborate on a drawing together and make your vision come to life. Just ping me on email if that sounds like fun. Cheers!”
