I'm so glad to hear you say that. The whole reason I'm writing fanfic is to basically develop my prose, and I studied professional works long before even attempting my own writing. I'm sure I have lots of room for improvement, but it's fun working at it.

No problem! Yeah I'm really loving SRU, great job. I love how you have completely captured and yet adapted each of the characters to the alternate setting in a really believable (and not at all Mary-Sueish) way.

Oh dear God if anything comes across as Maru Sue-ish I'm gonna have to like, jam a nail in my foot.
I will not be inserting myself so blatantly in any way. Although each of the main characters ends up having a part of me in them, and many of the things the characters have done or said are things I did in real life while I was at college.
I'm glad you're enjoying it.
What kind of fanfiction have you been writing? Is there a particular story you'd want me to look at if/when I get time?

Haha, no don't worry. I was merely commenting that many college or school type AU fics tend to be indulgent Mary-Sue-fests. With people casting themselves as "the beautiful girl Aang falls in love with" etc etc, or typecasting the characters as the "jocks" and "nerds".
I love the fact that your characters are very real and complex, just as in the show. Of course you can't help but put a bit of yourself into your characters, but if it's honest, that just makes for good writing.
Hehe I only have one fic posted at the moment "Flames of Kyoshi". I'm quite proud of it, as its probably the first bit of writing I've done since I studied high school lit all those years ago.
I'm not bothered if you aren't into reading other people's fiction. I would like to hear the opinion of another writer that I respect though.

Aang is like my immaturity and when I act childish, Sokka is my...sarcastic goofy sense of humor merged with my uppity mocking attitude and love of food, Katara is my intense caring about others even if I don't know them, always wanting to 'fix' things, Toph is my loneliness, my intolerance, my feeling of rejection, and Smellerbee is becoming my anger and indifference. None of the characters are of course wholly like me but they all have bits and pieces, right down to some of the dialogue they say being directly ripped from something I myself said at some point in the past few years. ^_^;
It's not that I'm not "into" reading other people's fiction - I do enjoy it. I just haven't had the time for it because when I get writing it's like a boulder rolling down a hill. Also, I just tend to not like reading other people's ideas of what I'm currently writing (reading Avatar fiction while I'm writing about Avatar), because I'd hate to 'steal' an idea from someone else and use it as my own, I guess. And, well, I also just haven't been in a reading mood lately, I guess.
I'd love to take the time to read it sooner or later, though, and share my thoughts - is it complete yet?
What's the basic idea?

I can understand not wanting to be influenced by other people's writing when your are mid-story.
My fic an attempt at a canon look at the characters 5 years post Book 3. The gang went their separate ways after the final battle and are reunited as they join together to battle a volcanic eruption on Kyoshi Island.
Lots of drama and description
