I'm sorry!!! I've been trying to catch up with you every weekend since week 3 but I've been so busy!
So far in the last 3 weeks I've been to UWA 4 Times, performed in 5 concerts, had 6 exams, joined a group of travelling musicians (long story), had countless rehearsals, somehow managed to get into the State Finals for the Australian Brain Bee Challenge without knowing a thing about neuroscience And saw a bunch of dissected body parts (there were dead people's faces Ash. I am now officially traumatised for life).

And now I'm going to Music camp until Sunday and New Zealand next week wednesday...

We need to catch up before I lose every second of my life!

I still haven't packed my bag for camp...

Cool thing though... today I got a violin mute so now I can play really, really quiet. It's like a Ninja Violin now! And it's shiny!

*sigh* I really need to fix my life. It's too busy. I'm going to burn out one day from all this stress, late nights and early mornings...

We need to catch up so I can personally deliver a hug to you...

Its really weird, i was the same last year, but now all of a sudden i have got the luxury of this thing called "sleep"....
I never realised how much i love sleeping.....i even went to bed at 9 the other day....

Well, so I was at UWA for this Brain Bee thing (yesterday) and ages ago they got us to sign a form that said we were okay with seeing actual brains donated from people (not while they were alive, of coarse) being dissected. Signed the form yes just like everyone else. I mean, seeing a dissected brain is okay for me because you can disassociate yourself from the fact that these lumps of flesh actually contained a person's very existence not so long ago.
What I was not prepared for was the other body parts...
When we entered the room, the guide explained to us that they used EVERY part of the body donated. There were brains, feet, ribs, hearts, lungs, hands, you name it! Some more intact than others... There sure are a heap of tendons in your hands, also I think that there's a chance that I'll never eat pork again. Or prunes (not that I ever started), you'd never believe how prune-like and small the human lungs look like.

So all was well (if not a little queasy) until I came to one particular shelf. It was covered in faces. Some were dissected, showing the muscles and teeth, while I think one or two were perfectly intact, though probably missing the eyes. One face still had blood smothered over the nose and lips. All of them were shaved but you could see the prickles of hair that grew. They were held taunt with that thick surgical string (you know the kind they use in stitches) and every eyelid was closed (except one, which is how I knew they didn't have eyeballs).
But that wasn't the unsettling part. The unsettling part was that they still resembled human faces and I couldn't help thinking about who these people were and what they did in life. Also my unka donated her body to science so I was quite distressed because any of those body parts could have been hers.

And then, right after all of that, they served us lunch.

UWA?? My sister teaches there...though in the Marine Biology section rather than Human... Shes just finished her PhD, and she insists on us referring to her as Doctor.... *sigh*

It sounds interesting, seeing the body parts just laid out like that knowing the had previously belonged to someone as real as you and me... I mean, i do quite often think of the Human consciousness, and its possibilities and limits and then when i hear you speak of the empty vessel just being displayed on a shelf... Its strange, unsettling even...almost puts things into perspective you know?


Hmm, i'll never underestimate or disregard water in my life....

You should have seen me at school. I was on a sugar high and very, very, very slightly drunk possibly (or just acting it during my random EXTREME SUGAR-HIGH!!! YEAH!) after music because we practically spent the WHOLE period Partying (eating sugar and rum-balls) because it was Rebecca's 28th!
In science (like 2 hours after music) I dressed like a ROBO-Cat and made an Awesome "Me-OW'-y noise! It was funny!

It was my best sugar high so far!!!
