I bet it was a nice surprise to see her in your camp. I'm sorry I couldn't doing it, I lost 2 villagers trying to move her, but she seems very comfortable in my town, dammit why am I so nice?Β

I actually lost all of my work recently because of a flood Since I've not had the heart to needle felt. I'm hoping to get back into it but it's been difficult.

You needle felts are amazing! I picked up needle felting the other day, and now I totally want to start making pokemon! I have a question though, I'm actually working on putting ears on a (very tiny) pony and it's very difficult. Do you think things (ears, legs, tails, etc) attach better if you leave the bottom of the thing to be attached a little looser? Like, I felted the heck out of the ears to make sure they were sturdy but it seemed like it was even harder to get them to stay. What do you think?

feltieflaffy In reply to the-pink-dragon [2013-02-10 00:02:38 +0000 UTC]
There are a lot of factors that can play into attaching small pieces, one being the quality of your wool, another is the density of the two individual pieces you are attaching. If you have low quality wool and you felt it too dense, there's not enough give left for them to felt into one another. Higher quality wools will have a little more give. if the ears are too dense it's easier to just re-do them, and leave a little extra felt unmatted at the place at which you plan to attach them. I hope this bit of advice has helped!

It has! Thank you, I'll keep that in mind next time I'm felting something small. But can I ask where you get your wool? I'm just a beginner so I just bought a big bag of assorted colors of wool from my local Michael's. I honestly have no idea what king of quality it is but I know it's from the brand Felt Works. Is there any place (online or physical) that sells good quality wool?

feltieflaffy In reply to the-pink-dragon [2013-02-10 04:04:34 +0000 UTC]
Well it depends! Micheals wool has proven to be okay for the most part, I spend a lot of time with a pair of tweezers picking stuff out of it, but you can google roving wool and find a good number of places that sell it online. Merino wool is high quality, and anything Alpaca is good. The issue with high quality wool is that it is expensive, and until your price point can match both the time spent on your craft and the cost of the wool, the good stuff is just too expensive for most commissions. I have a bit of the nice wool that I use for personal gifts.

Huh, okay. I've actually looked up some Merino wool on your suggestion and it seems as if most places sell Merino for cheaper than I can get it from Michael's. Like, I have a big bag with all the wool I've bought from Michael's, and it probably cost about 15 dollars. I just weighed it and it's about 2 oz. I've seen places that sell 2 oz of Merino wool for about 4 dollars. So I'm probably going to start getting my wool online, unless I need this specific color I haven't been able to find online anywhere. Anyway, thanks for the advice!
