ah sorry I'm getting back so late. you probably already sent out your portfolio D: I can't really say anything since it's kinda late but hums I guess one thing you could do is pay attention to the layout of your portfolio. I took extra care for each image to either lead into the next or to play off with the other or look as if they were paired together. It showed I took care of how I presented my work and also showed a sort of story. One of the figure drawing teachers here who also is on the admissions committee really loves designed and story telling figure drawings.

I wish you good luck and I hope you make it. Your figure drawing is very fun and colorufl and though some are a little stiff they still have a narrative quality.

Yes please try to do more gesture drawings. They don't even have to be like nude. I had 2 friends who got in without ever having to do nude figure drawing. Half of my portfolio was under 5 minutes. Hah I sent my portfolio late I worked on it all up till the day it was due and it arrived for them on the 8th XD. I don't think CalArts is that stingy on the due date of your portfolio.

I like the colors you're using however I find the gestures as if you are still searching for the form. The lines are a little too messy to be deliberate, form is still rather stiff. I suggest using a line of action to ground you. Have you tried doing gestures without the guiding circles you are using? They seem to be making your work stiffer. I like Figure Drawing 4 alot. it shows alot of movement and the messiness is just about right. I like the bottom left of Figure Drawing 7. Try to be more loose about your piece. Ah Im being more general since I feel if I give too much advice it'll be advice on how I do figure drawing >_>

well Figure Drawing 2 and 4 for sure put in. Maybe 7 and 8. The other ones are not as strong. Just try to do more gestures as much as you can and get the ones that show the most movement in. Like I said you can do clothed so just spend a couple days doing gestures. You have to have gestures. They are every bit as important maybe even more so then longer poses. I was in the same rut with lack of gestures in my portfolio so for the last weekend of my portfolio I got some friends to do some poses for me and I also went to the park (though that was harder since I had to draw big for my portfolio).

Also put in some (just a few) of your illustration pieces that you think are strong. [link] is really gorgeous and if you still have the original you should try to stick it in. I had 3 illustrations that I put in that they really liked. Try to have illustrations that match live drawing. One of mine was myself in an ipod, another was a bunch of hands.

ok, i'll do my best, i emailed the addmitions lady, and asked if it was ok to send prints so i'm sending in prints of my illustration, cause i have a gallary showing for my senior year, and it is a big thing at my school. so i'm just sending in tha print, i also got a a close up print of the illustration you mentioned. so i feel confident, i'll upload some more that i've done, and you couild tell me what you think. thank you so much for helping me, i truely aprciate it. I got into Character Animation for Fall 2009. It was hard for me since my parents weren't very into the whole idea of art school and figure drawing since they were very conservative, but I think if you just practice alot and have a distinctive style that is visually appealing XD

lots of gesture drawings since thats better for animation. Spent a day at the park and drew some ducks and geese. Had only like 2 longer posed stuff just to show I could draw but from what I've heard you don't really need that. I'd link my portfolio but I'm not getting it back till i go down for school D:
