If you want to learn to tattoo, the tried and true best method is find someone you think tattoos awesome and convince them to teach you.

Art school. As much as you can. If someone wants a Michaelangelo back piece, you've got to be able to pull off Michaelangelo. Also, have a kick ass portfolio of your own work. Lots of variety, colour, black and white, portraits, landscapes, crazy newschool pin-ups girls, werewolves, you get the picture. Being a tattoo artist is a career. With your own client base and a reputation. Around these parts, half the population has Maple Leaf tattoos. So if I do one, and that person goes out to the bar and there's 10 other maple leaf tattoos, I want mine to be the best. That's how you have to approach it if you want to be successful.
