GAH too difficult to say! I used to think the 11th, but this summer I rewatched basically every episode of the revived series and I've got to say every Doctor has his own unique awesomeness >< Favorite companions hands down though are Donna and Rory. What about you?

I'm a David Tennant fan, personally. 11 was good, but it seems like he relied on his sonic screwdriver for everything, whereas Tennant just used it from time to time for small tasks. Plus, David Tennant was the perfect mixture of seriousness and playfulness. Matt Smith seemed almost too goofy sometimes. I have not seen much of 9 yet, but I have heard that he is pretty great. As far as companions go, I am not really sure. They are all so different and awesome. I really like Rose's chemistry with Tennant, Martha's personality, Donna's sense of humor, and the Amy/Rory combo because they are generally awesome. By the way, have you seen the David Tennant/Catharine Tate comedy sketch on YouTube?

Yeah, 11 can get a little crazy shiny sometimes, and I'm not quite sure if those convoluted plot twists actually work out... 9 & 10 have more of that strange juxtaposition of down-to-earth humanity and wacky alienness that makes Dr. Who so fantastic. But I really like the questions that are brought up about right and wrong during 11's arc! Excited to see the new companion in action come autumn.
No I hadn't seen the sketch until I youtubed it just now haha. Tate is HILARIOUS! I just watched it twice. And so cool to hear Tennant's Scottish accent come through.

Yeah, a lot of times he would have some crazy explanation and I would just be like, "wait... how does that work out?" But yes, I am definitely looking forward to the next series!
I absolutely love that sketch! It is so funny! I have a hard time telling what Catharine Tate is saying towards the end, but it is awesome!

Yeah, that always bothers me too! But to be fair, all of the Doctors have a tendency of doing that at least a couple of times per season haha.
I looked up a transcript for it: [link] BITE ME ALIEN BOY!
Have you watched Firefly/Serenity? I find that Dr. Who fans tend to like Firefly, and vice versa.

Haha! That's it! What does she mean by bovvered, though?
I love the part where she says, "But can I just aks you a question? I only want to aks you a question. Canβt I aks you a question? Iβm just aksing you a question. Canβt I aks you a question?"
And I have indeed watched Firefly and Serenity. I like Doctor Who better, but I do enjoy the show. I don't really like how they ended Serenity, though. I have heard that they might be bringing the show back for another season, but after what happened in the movie, I don't think it will be quite the same.
Another show that I really like is "Chuck". It also has Adam Baldwin. Are you familiar with it?

Bovvered = bothered, and "am I bothered" basically means "does it look like I care?" Or something along those lines I think. Myself, I completely cracked up when she said, "Do you fancy Billie Piper, sir?"
There's just too little of Firefly/Serenity to be able to fall in love with it as completely as Doctor Who... but I always feel sad thinking about the potential it had. I'm a big fan of Whedon's writing in general - never fails to make me laugh (and Nathan Fillion too! Come to think of it, you could totally pull off a Mal Reynolds if you ever wanted to ) But yeah I agree, it'd be difficult to pick off from the end of Serenity with a new season...
I've heard of Chuck and it's on my to-watch list! Haven't gotten around to it though. I didn't know Adam Baldwin was in it though, now I've definitely got to watch it.

Ah, that makes sense! But yeah, the Billie Piper line was great!
I know what you mean. I love the characters, but there is just not enough of the show to make as big an impact. But Joss Whedon is really great from what I have seen. I did not realize until the end credits that he was involved in The Avengers. And, of course, Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog is hilarious. Have you seen his movie, "Cabin in the Woods"? I heard it was good, but I have not seen it yet.
And I would totally love to do a Mal Reynolds set! If I can get my hands on an outfit that resembles his, I will most certainly take some pictures!
Chuck is an amazing show. I have always been a geek, so a show about a geek who gets thrown into the spy life is perfect. There are references to geek culture all over the place (here is one of my favorite moments: [link] ), which is awesome! And unlike Big Bang Theory, which, from what I have seen, seems to make fun of geeks and their shortcomings, Chuck laughs along with the geeks and shows why they are awesome. But it is also the perfect balance of comedy and serious action/adventure. The casting is also flawless.

I haven't seen Cabin in the Woods or the Avengers yet! >< Such a fail on my part...I heard that they're really good too though! I'm guessing you enjoyed Avengers? Oh, and I absolutely adore Dr. Horrible's - another great Nathan Fillion + Joss Whedon combo, and Neil Patrick Harris just takes the cake. Sometimes I like to sing the laundry song while doing the laundry... but only if no one else is in the room.
Looking forward to a potential future Mal Reynolds set from you, hope you find a coat like his someday - and if you can't, then I suppose in the meantime you could always tape a picture of a hammer in a yellow circle on your chest and do crack shots of Captain Hammer stuff..haha.
Never really got into Big Bang Theory, though my brother is a HUGE fan. I am definitely going to watch Chuck as soon as possible though. I have no idea what the context is for that clip, but it's hilarious. When the humming started, my face pretty much resembled the blonde girl's.

Avengers was amazing! The casting, acting, special effects, and pretty much everything else were great! Haha, singing The Laundry song from Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog whilst doing laundry must be awesome!
And I'll keep my eyes open for a coat that resembles his. You are right, I should do some Captain Hammer ones too! That would be a lot of fun!
I've only seen a couple episodes of Big Bang Theory. The first time I saw it, I thought it was pretty funny, but then I was talking to a friend and she explained that the show makes fun of geeks and furthers the negative stereotypes. Chuck is different, though. In this episode, the guy with the beard, Morgan, has to infiltrate a meeting of badguys because he looks like an enemy agent that the CIA has captured. His objective is to go in, even though he has had basically no spy training, and acquire a weapon. When he, Chuck, and Sarah are waiting in the van, he begins to have second thoughts, pointing out that he doesn't know how to be a badguy. Chuck begins humming "The Imperial March"--Darth Vader's Theme from Star Wars, which gives Morgan the courage and inspiration he needs to continue.

Avengers sounds awesome.. do you think it's necessary/beneficial to watch the individual superhero films first (ie Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Cpt America) in order to fully appreciate Avengers? Because that's why I waited to watch it, and now it's not in theaters anymore haha.
Oh wow Chuck sounds so comedically dramatic. Definitely approve the whole empowerment of geek culture themes! And also, it's a really cool example of what fans can do to keep a series going - if only the fans of Firefly had been equally as successful.

I have not seen the Hulk movies, but I have seen Iron Man 1&2, Thor, and Captain America. Captain America is pretty important to the Avengers storyline, but Thor is the only one that is critical, as far as I can remember. Out of all of them, Captain America was the only one that I did not love, though. It just seemed too easy for him. Thor was pretty great and the Iron Man movies have Robert Downey Jr., so they are hilarious. I definitely recommend them!
I know, right? It's a shame Firefly couldn't have been continued.

I watched Iron Man 1, Thor, and Captain America recently. It was interesting seeing all these references to "Stark" technology in all the movies, as a way to tie the universe together. Probably going to get Avengers on DVD once it comes out... looking forward to it!
Pushing Daisies is another show that I feel got scrapped too soon... have you heard of it? It's more on the fantasy end than scifi though, so not sure if you'd be interested.

Yeah, I will probably get Avengers when it comes out too.
I love Fantasy stuff! Lord of the Rings is probably one of my favorite books of all time. I have not heard of Pushing Daisies, though. What is it about?

diskerror In reply to Brandon-Tarian [2012-08-08 03:47:11 +0000 UTC]
Pushing Daisies [link] is a rather quirky show with very fairy tale esque visuals and themes. The basic premise is that there is a pie maker, Ned, who has the power to make dead things alive again with a single touch. But there's a catch - if the dead person stays alive for more than a minute, another living thing must die to take its place. If Ned touches a dead thing twice, it'll die again and can never come back to life again. There are two parts to the general plot: one, is a kind of kooky stylized detective mystery format for each episode, where Ned helps this private detective solve murder cases by interrogating the victim; two, is a love story, between Ned and his childhood sweetheart. It's not a very serious show, kind of borders on magical realism with super over-the-top murders, but it's definitely a lot of fun! It was well received by critics and even won 7 Emmys, but it got cancelled after only two seasons... making the later half of the second season REALLY bad because the writers had to rush everything. Still, it's one of my favorite lighthearted TV shows to watch and rewatch. The sets are just so pretty!
Ooh, love Lord of the Rings! Really excited to see how The Hobbit films come out. Game of Thrones kind of reminds me of a LotR flavor too..

Nice! I'll have to check it out!
Have you heard that they are splitting The Hobbit movie into three parts?
Game of Thrones is on my To-Read list, but I do not know much about it yet. I have heard people refer to the author as the American Tolkien, though, so I expect it will be awesome!

Which part did you think was the saddest? I didn't see the whole of it, actually, just some of the first half and then the second half. The robot arena was one of the saddest, in my opinion, because it seems so realistic... it could easily happen and it did in history with christians etc.
